I've been mixing it up with different classes, metafit, kettlecise, pilates, bodypump and going 3 -4 times a week.

This is definitely the way to go. I used to do a lot of running and started to get problems with my knees. After taking professional advice I was told that as a 45 year old woman I need to be doing as many different types of exercise as possible with strength and flexibility being really important. I do pilates and kettlercise for these elements and mix in cycling, running and spinning in as well. About 6 months ago I reduced the length my exercise sessions slightly and did more days - exercising 5 days out of 7 for 30/45 minutes instead of 3 times a week for an hour each time. This has really worked for me and my fitness has rocketed.

I know its easy to say but dont get too hung up on your weight. My shape has changed completely but my weight hasnt gone down much. Oh and if you increase your exercise levels you are bound to be more hungry. I have always aimed for a sensible balanced diet - I dont believe in cutting anything out completely - lots of fruit and veg of course and as little processed food as possible.

    Good advice that.

ok another 10 days or so, routine now is gym Tues, Thurs and Sat or Sun so three times a week.

Treadmill stuck a 300 cals in 21 mins
rowing slightly faster, 9 min 22 secs tonight for 2 km
cycling calories up still 20 mins but hit 190 cals tonight

And as promised I finally got the courage to weigh myself

And it would be fine If I was about 18" taller, I'm not overweight just underheight.

16st 3 lb I am going to weigh once a week and see how it tracks. I am into the obese category by about 20 lbs at the moment. aaggghhhh.

My wife resolved to do at least 30 minutes exercise every day in 2017. Twelve days on. she's still at it. 353 days to go.

She's still at it. 15 minute Abs Blast followed by 45 min Insanity workout today. That's mixed with a weekly personal trainer session, a heavy weight routine and her bodyweight challenge apps (pull ups, push ups, crunches, plank, squats, whatever), She also has a HIT routine too.

It makes me tired thinking about it.
  • ok quick update

still at it 3 times per week (not that!) the gym

treadmill walking up to 300 cals 21/22 mins
cycling now hitting just over 200 cals in 20 mins
rowing managing the 2km in just under 9 mins (when I sprint the last 250mtrs)

Weights wise I am lifting more, I can see and feel bigger biceps. Leg muscles also stronger.

And weight wise ... I am now under the 16 st mark ... lost 2lb per week for the last 2 weeks. Slow and steady.

Well done Mr. G! You've made massive steps by taking it slow and steady :)

I've upped my steps to 12,000 per day, and am loving kettlebells at the gym :)

Latest update folks: (I know you are all waiting just desperate to know)

Tonight's visit cardio in order ...

Cycling first, 20 mins, resistance a bit higher I guess. 20 mins, 230 cals
Cross trainer next, getting to like this equipment. 20 mins, 240 cals.
Treadmill last. Walking uphill 15 Deg at 6.6 kmh, 21 mins. 300 Cals.
I do quite a few weights now, total workout time about an hour and a half. I can see the effort going up by the calories burnt and by the increased weights I'm shifting. Hopefully the new years resolutions are being kept up by all of us!

Yesterday on the tread mill, inspired by the ancient guy next to me I ran for 5 minutes, uphill at 5 deg. Something I haven't been able to do for several years. This was after I'd done my 300 cals walking uphill, I took it to 350 by running.

I am starting to loose a bit of weight, tonight I am below 16 stone! whoop whoop!

    10 months in.

New routine settled on gym Mon, Tue, Thurs and sometimes Sat or Sun.

Interesting reading what I was doing, I have the resistance pretty high on my chosen CV equipment. I do the bike and the cross trainer until I hit 320 cals on each. I still row the 2km and do it in about 9 1/2 mins.

I have built the weights slightly but I do more reps. Looking back to the start of the year where I was doing 30 reps I do three sets now - 65, 55 then 50. Decent progress.

I have lost a bit of weight, about half a stone. I am much fitter. I do sit ups now and can touch my toes! progress indeed.
