Sarcopenia is the degenerative loss of muscle as you age. From age 50 you lose around 1% each year. So at age 80 you have approx half what you used to have. We don't really know why it happens but there is massive correlation between life expectancy and muscle mass.

If you live in the North West you have probably seen the mast that transmits TV. You park up about 2 miles below the summit and get walking. 2 Miles each way, but I'd guess a 30 deg gradient. Feel it on the calf's a touch.
That brings back memories. I used to walk up there with my dad when I was a lad.0 -
I'm in! I'm currently recovering from pneumonia so am restricted to light activity, but will be ramping it up once I am cleared to do so.
I'd love to do an obstacle race this summer, so fitness for that that will be my aim.

Off back to the gym tonight
am happy to be back at work for both brain stimulation and the half-hour of walking I have to do on my commute!

day 24 update, gym 3 times a week so far, regular routine in place ... sort of.
Treadmill 21 mins = 300 cals
Bike 20 mins = 165 cals
Rowing 2 kms takes about 9 mins 40 secs, (I must remember to look at Cals)
I am doing about 20 mins on the weights too.
At the end of the month I'm going to weigh myself!! Still reluctant to do it yet. Then I can measure my weight loss. Everyone sticking to it?Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0 -
Been a bit difficult to gym it recently as I've had various courses on and a poorly dog, but still cracking out 10,000 steps per day

Count me in! I started going to the gym regularly just before Xmas, before the rush! I've had a break from gym over xmas but sticking to healthy eating.
Since 1st January I've cut out caffeine, alcohol, chocolate, junk food and managed to stick with it so far, only been almost tempted with Satuday night wine but got goals to aim for, 2 stone weight loss wanted and signed up for a 10k in September.
I've been mixing it up with different classes, metafit, kettlecise, pilates, bodypump and going 3 -4 times a week.
Was a bit disapointed today when I weighed myself for the 1st time this year and haven't lost anything but I'm sticking with it, going to change my eating habits to little and often to see if it helps my metabolism. I've considered taking supplements but looking into them for info has got me more confused on what to take.
Good luck everybody! :beer:0
