Gift cards as Christmas presents

I was given 2 gift cards as Christmas presents this year, neither of them i am able to use as they are for things that i don't have or use. Am i now stuck with them or will the store refund/exchange them? I have the receipts for them and the person i got them from said that i could take them back if they weren't ones i could use, which suggested to me that they had been told it would be possible. If it helps they where bought in WHSmith don't know if different stores have different polices.

Any help and advice would be much appreciated.

You will most certainly be able to exchange them. Go in and choose something you want to exchange it for.

You won't get a refund though

Take them in for a refund - should have 30 days from the receipt date in accordance with the FAQs on WHSmith website.

Would this be any different it was one of the cards they sell for Netflix or Playstation?

My friend took his in and the store told him as it was marked as a Christmas gift they would honour a refund although the T&Cs suggest not. Could well be store dependant but I'd pop in and ask - nothing to lose (apart from a refund of course!).
