Independence Day in the United States

We are thinking of going to New York in July 2017. In terms of the cost of flights and hotels is it best to avoid going there over Independence Day?

Thanks
Val :)

Personally i would swerve it on independence day as there has previously been 2 alien invasions over that period and the aliens dont seem to have learnt from the first instance so one can only assume they will have another go in the near future.

If you do insist on going at the very least keep your eyes open for jeff goldblum if you see him and he looks worried then i would suggest heading for the hills

Surely Jeff Goldblums dad Judd Hirch and the ex president.Bill Pullman will not be around so it should be ok!

well the last time i saw judd hirch he was leonard hofstadters dad in the big bang theory yet oddly they never mention jeff golblum being leonards brother, oh i dont know im very confused now.

to the OP, with out wishing to be rude, which is very unlike me but it is the season of goodwill and all that jazz, how about you price it up yourself on expedia and see for yourself if the 4th July has any baring on the cost of your holiday?

We were in New York on Memorial Day (30th May) when everything shut down and it was great. We hadn't realised how much they treated this day as being special but transport services carried on running and we visited Governors Island (it opened that day for the summer) and then went back via Brooklyn.

Don't forget that Central Park is open as well!

I would not want to be in the USA then: as a patriotic Brit I deplore the rebellion and wish that it had been suppressed and law and order re-established. When I explain this to the people celebrating, for some reason they get upset!

Banks and clothes shops are closed but the attractions are all open during the day. Bars and restaurants are open, and there are events on in central park. Apparently a lot of things shut for the fireworks, but if you go you'll be watching them too.

Hotels don't seem to be any more expensive, New York is expensive anyway. I'd say go for it!

They still are a bit touchy about that bonfire in Washington just over two hundred years ago as well!
