TomTom or smartphone?

Former truck driver here. I used to use a Tomtom V3, haven't done for a few years. Google Maps with HERE as an offline backup is the way to go. Google Maps has just continued to get better and better especially with live traffic and offering alternative routes to save time if there is congestion or an accident and there is no need to keep updating the maps. Even the new routed section and junctions of the still in construction A1 upgrade to motorway from Leeming Bar to Scotch Corner have been fully implemented on Google Maps since they opened them several months ago yet Tomtom still thinks you're in a field. Add to the fact you can just type in or via voice say things like "Halfords Scarborough" and it'll route you there without having to enter the address and it just keeps hammering more nails in the coffin of standalone satnavs.
My Tomtom feels archaic now and is relegated to wife use as she still likes it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I use Navmii on my phones, and find it great, it's free too.
Id never pay for a satnav again personally0 -
I personally wouldn't bother with a stand alone sat nav any more.
I've watched Google Maps improve all the time and with phone technology getting better too that is the only way to go IMHO.Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.0 -
