Coin saving

Have made up my mind to start saving every single coin change I get next year. In fact, I Just came across a book while searching for thrifty saving ideas which seems to support this plan. It's called "The £2.00 Saver-Star: How to Save up a Nest-egg with the Amazing £2.00 coin!" I'll keep you guys updated on my success or failure. Just tired of never having enough spare cash for meals out. No sure I'll have enough £2.00 coins to spare but at least, I can start with what I have. Let me know if anyone else has a brighter idea.

    Hi,

Please remember the £1 coin is changing so they will go out of circulation at some point, so probably best to not save these

    Hi, Comfort2.

I've been doing the £2 saving for some time now. I don't know if its my imagination but they don't seem to appear so often in my change these days.

I also save up all my new or 'shiny' coins. These are given in transparent purses to my youngest two grandchildren for birthdays. They love counting up their stash as it's a different amount every time.

    I second this, remember

all my 'road kill' goes in a tin for the ice creams and treats for my DGS when we go on holiday in August. The boys often come home with bits of 'shrapnel' (5ps)that have been chucked outside the tuck shop

I used to collect £2.00 coins but haven't had any in my change for months now.

My mum saves 5ps, 2ps and 1ps so I collect them for her. All my other silver change goes in my Tardis money box! It's just a habit I've retained from my childhood days when my beloved dad encouraged my brother and I to save our pennies. He had a large whisky bottle in the corner - not the enormous ones - which we loved to watch fill up. Thru'pennies featured heavily then!

There is a pile of £1.00 coins at my mum's house from when I was 'dossing'' with her two years ago so I must remember to spend them before October.

My current account has a 'save the change' facility so that if I spend (say) £5.96 on my card the bank rounds up the pennies and moves them over to my savings account.

Hello, last year I saved all my two pound coins in a metal money boxes from poundland, I got to about the end of October and opened it, I had managed to save 340 pounds, so pleased, this was just from any coins in my change, although I did draw from the bank my food shopping allowance and use that rather than my debit card, am doing it again this year, good luck, an easy way to save x
  • Hello,
I save all my loose change, 1p-50p, usually it gets counted at the end of the month and used against the credit card but this year I'm doing the Sealed Pot Challenge on here. It gets really addictive after a while!
    Emergency Savings #73 = £1,500/£2,000
    Savings Pot £1,440.00
    Xmas 2018=£100/£300 Australia =£0.00/6000

I hang onto 50 pence pieces as the lad uses them as bus fare.
(I happen to hang onto the polymer fivers as they don't play nicely with my purse but i'm getting a new purse next year once the size of the poly notes is clear.)I try to hang onto pound coins - and while they'll change, I've several bags ready to exchange as soon as the new ones com through. Reassuring.
One son is a definite coin saver & can be found crooning to his hoard not unlike Smaug. However, he cooperates with changing notes etc so it's a handy habit to have around...

After seeing the "save a pound a day" challenge, I thought I'd do something slightly different as I hardly use cash. I like the idea of £1 a day=over £300 for next Christmas so instead, each time I'm asked to pick up top up items such as milk, I'm going to withdraw £10 from the ATM, pay with that tenner and put the change (£5 notes as well) in a sealed coffee jar.
