lesson 1 of photography course. install either google photos, dropbox, onedrive etc etc and have them manage photos and backup.

i am assuming he has none of these installed? photos must be somewhere on the phone. i would plug into pc/laptop and search all folders for images

Lesson 2 - use a real camera, but we're going slightly off topic. ;)

as another has said , never never delete photps until you have backed up to a totally seperate place, and have checked you have done so.

He has learnt a valuable lesson that all who take pictures seriously have learnt the hard way too.

That aside if doing an A'Level in photography he would be expected to be using a real camera not a phone.

Is this the 21st century equivalent of the dog ate my homework?
    Hope he gets sorted.

No, it's a case of the photos being deleted, which means I am going to have to drive him into the countryside again to take the photos.

Unfortunately coming from a single parent family, this is out of my price bracket.

a 2nd hand camera can be a lot cheaper than some mobile phones and that a real camera is a requirement for the course I am sure you could find a way . Even through the cataloques paying monthly.

    Try this.

Hopefully you know how to connect the phone to a pc (mine uses the charging lead as a usb lead).

Connect it up and use Windows explorer on the pc to search for *.jpg files on all folders on the phone. Do this carefully and methodically and you might just find that they've inadvertently been put in some obscure folder (mentioned by another poster).

It was a phone, oneplus 3T.

    Thanks

    Just use PhotoRec

Of course you need to choose to save the photos to another medium.

Since I don't own an Android phone, I can't guide you through all of the steps.

It works with the ext4 file system, so if you can give it access to the storage it will recover your files.

My son does have the use of a real camera, which is owned by the school. Unfortunately other students use the camera as well, so it is not always available. The photos that he has just taken do not require him to use the camera, which is why he has used his phone. The photography course was taken because his first option (art) was not available to him in that options block. He intends to study graphic design, and therefore needed an art subject. I don't use catalogues, and am not prepared to get into debt by buying him a camera, when he has the use of the one at school when it is required, and photography is not what he intends to study when leaving 6th form.

Please don't feel the need to justify your decision.

OH is a professional photographer and he takes amazing photos on his phone - composition and framing are the skills he uses on both his £120 phone and his work £2k camera. The raw images are similar, the work photos just get more attention post shot.

An expensive camera can't make up for a lack of skill.
