Car hire excess insurance recommendations

Hi all,
I'm looking for recommendations for car hire excess insurance providers.
Following the advice in this site:
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-car-hire
I've found lots of options and they are all cheap as chips. Hundreds of pounds less than the car hire firms charge.
Seems a little too good to be true. Can anyone recommend an insurer with a good track record for paying out?
Thanks!

We use Insurance4carhire - but have never needed to claim (long may it continue...) so no idea what they'd be like if we should need to.No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0

I used someone called Questor, probably the cheapest for the cover I wanted but I didn't plan to crash so didn't look into whether they had a good track record of paying out. If you think it's likely you will need the payout (e.g. if you are going abroad and worry about dodgy firms trying to rip you off, not saying you will crash a lot!!) then whack the firms into the site below

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Sent the claim form off with all the documents required. Payment received into my bank account within 3 weeks. Couldn't have asked for anything better.
The payment even came before the hire company had actually done the repair.0
