Avro

Compliments of the season one and all,

I am currently on an EDF dual fuel tariff that ends Jan 17. Although I pay £88 pm DD, I see that there is around £200+ credit. I'm not overly concerned since EDF are a big company and unlikely to go under.

For a new tariff, I have been hitting the comparison sites, and AVRO always come at the top with the best offer for a one year fixed tariff.

But this is a small, new (ish) company and I do wonder, if paying by DD and I build up credit, and then they go under, what happens to my credit?

Would I be reimbursed in due course or is my money lost forever?

Does anyone have good/poor opinions about AVRO?

Thanks and Happy New Year.

Rex

Following the collapse of GBEnergy, Ofgem has now set out the precedent for dealing with future energy supplier collapses. All credit balances will now be protected by the gaining supplier of Last Resort, and by a levy on all energy customers.

Many thanks. So theoretically, everything should be hunky dory. But the proof of the pudding, etc. etc. etc.

Personally, I am not a big fan of a fixed, monthly DD and if it were not for the fact that monthly DD saves money over paying quarterly, I would not do it.

Guess the most logical way is to constantly check the balance and adjust the DD accordingly.

If you want to play around with your monthly DD payments, then the smaller suppliers are not for you. They can be difficult to contact and most do not have online DD managers. Bear in mind that DD payments are only payments made on account. If building up a credit balance worries you, then choose your supplier carefully.

Currently the best tariff for me is also Avro -interestingly the next 8 dual fuel tariffs in the table are also from small suppliers - suspect that their systems are going to get thoroughly tested in the next couple of months, as droves of people switch away from the late lamented super tariffs with EON which are ending.:(

Hi Rekusu, I have been with Avro since April 16 and have no problems. They do take a DD before your supply starts, they are now on monthly billing so its advantageous to send monthly reading although they do email a reminder. I have had a few estimates but these have been ok. They don't however send you an email when the bill is ready.
As its now the heavy use time of the year is your credit after you have been billed? if you switch in January I have seen comments that you may have to pay a higher DD amount to start because Avro don't want you to build up a large debit because of the winter. You may need to check this with them, when I switched they answered by questions by email/telephone quickly.
