It should be 18 weeks from referral to intervention not first appointment which ideally should be within 6-8 weeks.
  • Oh so Bristol is massively missing national targets then? I don't know what to do next. I will get oh to recheck the waiting times with the GP.
    Thanks

  • Down here in Devon I had the op, all done and dusted in about 12 weeks.

It can be keyhole surgery, but in my case I was sliced open. Day case, in at about 10am, out by 6pm, and it was extremely painful - could barely walk. Took a few days and I was walking again, back to work the following week, but no driving for two weeks at least.

    Good luck, fj

Not just Bristol but most places in the UK as the NHS is struggling, however, there can be large variance between hospitals, hence worth checking waiting times and asking GP to be referred under Choice.

Thanks FBaby will brief OH as GP due to ring him. Will probably be at least the middle of this coming week now. He was only offered Southmead or Cossham Hospitals for the op, although he could also have initial appointment only, at South Bristol too.

His e-referral letter came from the NHS Choice Support Team not from the GP. He was initially refused the op due to lack of funds so GP had to appeal.

    Thanks for your help.
