Private hernia repair

Morning all
Some advice if you please,,,,OH has been diagnosed with a hernia in the groin area. We have just had a letter Christmas Eve that he can attend hospital for an appointment for assessment 50+ day's wait. Then if an op is approved it's a wait of 45 weeks at least. All on the letter.
So we are considering going private as a one off self funding. Has anyone any experience of this please?
Thanks
Gintot

Thanks for quick reply. Sounds encouraging, I've read GP has to refer him so quite probably.

Mine was done on the NHS but in a BUPA hospital.
Diagnosed in December, saw consultant February, op in May.
Day procedure but I was kept in overnight.
Private cost about £3700.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

I wonder of the 45 weeks should read 4-5 weeks, I was diagnosed in November and operaion in February, on the NHS, a chap I know had his done private a month earlier, and hey ho, It was the same surgeon that performed the operation.1 -
Going private might give you a choice of surgeons. When your GP refers ask, and also ask which he suggests.. it also useful to know which method is being used. I had a choice of three surgeons. My wait time would have been many months on the NHS. I had the opportunity in a couple of weeks privately.0

Thanks for the replies. The waiting time is definitely 45 weeks ish. We live in Bristol. Maybe the waiting time is shorter in other areas. The average cost in the South West is £2600 but appears to vary considerably across the country.
OH will contact the GP this week to discuss.

I had mine fixed last year. Very simple procedure and a lovely experienxe in the hospital. Well looked after and very relaxed in my own room. I was able to book for when it suited so I could coordinate with work and even fit in recovery with holiday and sports I do.0

That's NHS care, even at the private hospitals listed. Your GP can refer you to any of these.0 -
Thanks for the info Fbaby. Food for thought but he is within 18 weeks for the first outpatient appointment . Approx 50 days for that. It's the 45 weeks to wait for the repair that's too much.
