OS Daily Boxing Day

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Good morning everyone.
Storm Conor is making its presence well and truly felt here. The wind hasn't stopped all night. The rain sounds sharp.
Yesterday was fine, not the best nor the worst. There were some lovely presents under my teeny tree. The treat of Dr Who was delightful and I enjoyed SCD too.
Waking up to hear of the death of George Michael is such a shock this morning.
Today i will reading one of my Christmas books and gathering the rubbish up. I feel the need to tackle the tshirt drawers and bundle up those I haven't worn since moving here.
Happy Boxing Day to all.0 -
Morning :santa2:
Just had an email from my cousin in Australia to say my other cousin in Canada's DDs little baby girl has arrived safe and sound and both Mum and baby are doing well Lovely Christmas news her name is Winter Emily Paley and she weighed in at a decent 8lbs.I am really pleased for them all Another twig on our expanding Christmas family tree:):)
Oooh lovely news! The last sentence made me giggle – the first thing I thought was 'Aw, a little twiglet'
Stay safe Gers x Are you managing to sleep through the noise? I'm quite a light sleeper so would probably keep waking up.
The heating is supposed to come on at 6am, I've heard the boiler attempt to start up a couple of times then go silent. I expect it's the pressure, I topped it up a bit the other day but obviously not enough, I couldn't see the reading properly and didn't want to overfill so I guessed, lol. I was about to sort it just now but apart from a couple of birds twittering away outside, it's completely silent and I'm enjoying the peace and quiet. I'll have to do it soon though, I'll need the hot water.
I had some lovely gifts – slipper boots and furry slipper socks, because I'm always complaining that my feet are cold, lol. Chocolates, Soap & Glory, Bayliss & Harding, Yankee candles and melts, a wax melt warmer, a hairdryer (mine hasn't worked properly for ages, it only blew cold air, lol), a Christmas tree tealight holder (so I can have a little bit of Christmas all year!), a jumper and a new white dinner set (plates and bowls with no chips – yay!). Miss tru also gave me a pair of socks with Christmassy owls on them, I put them on then she revealed her feet – she was wearing them too and said we had to match on Christmas day
Miss tru is most amused by her Secret Santa unicorn shower cap from someone at work. It's one of things that isn't that funny after the initial unwrapping but for some reason, gets you every time, lol. She collapses in a fit of giggles every time I ask her to put it on
Scampi enjoyed his Christmas dinner – he even ate the sprout (won't touch them normally) so am very proud of him :rotfl:
I've filled a large pyrex bowl with mixed salad leaves, spinach and cherry tomatoes. There's gammon, cheese and turkey in the fridge and part-baked baguettes and pickles in the cupboard. There's a bit of party food in the freezer, (mini sausage rolls etc) so that's food sorted for the next few days. Well, that and chocolate

Morning folks and thanks for the thread Gers. RIP George M. So many stars have been lost this year.
Today is going to be a full on day and I shall be glad when it's tomorrow and I can be a couch potato all day and eat nothing but leftovers and chocolates.
I have turkey, gammon and beef to cook this morning to take down to DD's for our second Christmas dinner. She is doing all the veg, desserts and veggie food for herself. Starters shared between us. Middle DGD, our little panto starlet, will be absent as she is doing both matinee and evening performances today. She is loving every minute of it but it won't be the same for us with her not there.
Tonight DD has invited all and sundry for her customary Boxing Day night open house. I really don't think Mr TA and I will stay long as neither of us feel up to socialising whilst nursing our bugs! (Well these days I don't feel very sociable when I don't have a bug to be honest! Quiet civilised get-togethers are more my style nowadays)
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad and anxious. Take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It's not a bad morning out there today, the wind has died down and it's quite mild. Hope the weather gets better for our friends in the North soon. We are forecast for a week of dry weather now but we shall see.
Heard about the sad news of George Michael. My sister will be crying this morning as he was her major crush while she was growing up. I read his obituary on the BBC news site and it was quite thought provoking.
I weighed myself this morning ready for my big lifestyle change and I was very happy to see I have not put any weight on for the past 6 weeks. I found last years diary and I have lost a few stone this year even though it's been a bit up and down. I have decided to forego the rest of the chocolates and stuff and really go for it with the low carbing.
I normally take the Christmas decs down today but have decided to leave them up for a day or so more as I am loving having twinkly lights in the living room. Because we didn't put too much up this year I can cope better with them hanging around after Christmas day. So I suppose there are advantages in letting stroppy teens decorate.
Tru, OMG where do you even get a unicorn shower cap, I can picture it in my head and it makes me giggle too.
TA, hope you have a great Christmas dinner today.
Gers, your Christmas sounds nice and relaxing.
Well, I am going to be getting showered and dressed in a minute and then I have about 5 loads of washing to do. Hubby is going to fire up the meat slicer and tackle the gammon and then he needs to take off all the meat from the turkey. No way am I buying such a big bird next year. We have only eaten half of a breast so far. Everyone wants turkey, chips and pickles today so I will just have it without the chips and make a nice salad up to go with it.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning everyone, thanks for the thread Gers
Have just caught up on yesterday's post and all the news, our CD was as good as it could be and DM even enjoyed a little turkey with gravywe played games and opened some lovely presents but mostly just felt blessed to all be together.
Today we have two DSS's coming over, will do roast beef and all the trimmings so that should fill at least part of their hollow legs :rotfl: then it will probably be an afternoon of sport on the tv so I will retire upstairs to have a good read.
Many congratulations on the new addition to the family Jackie, what a wonderful time for you all x
RIP Mr G Michael, a talented man for sure.
Have a good day everyone, esp the TA's, take care folks x0 -

Morning All
Hope you're all well, Lainey - glad your DM could enjoy some of her christmas dinner.
Well done dumpling - 2017 is waiting for you and we are all here to support you!
So glad you enjoyed the wedding JackieO, they look so happy.
Had a lovely day yesterday, DD was here, we got some lovely thoughtful gifts and enjoyed getting the dinner ready together. Friends came over for our Christmas dinner, a really relaxing time. I think the game of jibber jabber was the star of our day, haven't laughed so much for ages!
The weather is awful, strong winds and heavy rain, I may make it to the bin and back but apart from that am going to enjoy a day to myself, there's enough food to keep me going for a month and a good deal of gin! Your gin sounds good Gers, have you ever tried Perry's Tot? Industrial strength stuff!
Have a good Boxing Day, take care. XX0 -
Morning all
It's mild and bright here I may do some washing and hang it on the line.
We popped in to both DD's yesterday, DS2 is visiting on 28th I'm feeding his cats until then, DS1 sent me a pic and text from his mobile phone, he is 40 and his dyslexia is so bad I have no idea what the message is, lol.
I've joined the grocery thread, we really need to save lots of money this year as I am desperate to retire. I can't face struggling on trying to do my job when I can't see properly.
Have a great day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning all,
Its after 5 pm here and we are not long back from a late lunch with friends, DGD7 was angelic as usual when we take her out......wonder how long that will last??
Enjoying the heat, just in the late 20s with a nice warm breeze.
Glad to hear that Danny's wedding went off so well JackieO, you have such a lovely, loving family.
its good to hear that Christmas has been a happy time for so many, unfortunately many tragedies and family divisions seem to happen at this time of year, souring the festival for years to come.
Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Morning, (((((((((( hugs)))))))))) if you need one.
We are still in bed. OH is shattered, quite a busy day yesterday. I had forgotten how noisy small children can be. It was nice to be out, but we did enjoy the peace when we got home.
A quiet day today. The sun is out, when I do get up the towels will be in the washer.
Jackie I tried to find your photos, I was unsuccessful. I love happy wedding photo,s.0
