Computer shop is not refunding me for cancelled item. Keeps asking for more time.

On December 14th, at about 8am, I placed an order on a very famous and prominent computer shop, for about £820.

At about 3pm, I tried calling to cancel this order, and couldn't get through. So I sent an email requesting cancellation. After midnight, I received a shipment notification.

First thing in the morning on 15th, I called and asked for advice as to what's the best way to cancel this order. I was told that they'll tell the delivery company to return this item to them and the money's hold on my account will be gone.

No item was delivered to me. So I'm guessing the delivery has been returned to them.

On 16th, the money was taken from my account.

On 19th, I called again asking about the status of the refund. They told me that it should have already happened but they'll track it down and call me back by the end of the day. Nobody called me again.

On 21st, I called again, asking about it. I was told exactly the same thing. They promised that they'll come back to me. They didn't.

On 23rd, I emailed the customer service, and the costumer service management, asking for an update and my refund. That has not been responded (understandably, as it's been holidays).

Order was paid via PayPal.

What are my rights? Can I ask for PayPal's buyer protection guarantee here? I was hoping to get the money back in time for Christmas gifts (thanks!), but I didn't.

How do I proceed?

They'll refund and should do without delay. But unfortunately they can take 14 days.
  • It's just frustrating as it's taking too long unnecessarily. I'll be calling on 28th again. Hopefully someone will sort this out for me.
  • I am sure they will sort it out. Once an order has been triggered it generally works it way through the systems, however to prevent fraud this means refunds of money can be delayed. Hopefully you will get your money back before the end of the month - but if they took it on the 16th it may be the 30th before the refund is issued..

  • They still have not sorted it out. Further phone calls, and no clear answer except from "we'll look into it and come back to you today", which they have not come back to me yet.

Another email, also left unanswered now after two working days.

Calling again this morning when they open up.
  • If you get nowhere today, you could try social media or you could simply open up a paypal dispute for INR (item not received). Don't waffle in the dispute, simply say item hasn't been delivered. If the company cannot show delivery to you via an online trackable means the monies will be refunded to you. Unfortunately, there is a timeline on a dispute, which means the refund will not be instant but at least it will come. If you open the dispute, you could let the company know they can refund to close it, quite simple and very quick.
  • Talked to someone who was helpful today. Hopefully I'll get that refund today!
