Hi guys

If i need a compressor for home diy such as impact wrench and other car related tools plus spraying what litter should i get?

I am looking to get 1.5 hp screwfix sealy 24 liter compressor

I know painting needs quie a bit of air but my painting will be every now on then on plastic or sometime car metal parts


If i get a smaller compressor does it simply mean it will need to constantly run or run longer duration than one with bigger capacity but at the end provides almost the same pressure?( some gonup to 8 bar while other to 10 bar)

I have a 3hp compressor with a 50 litre tank and it barely copes with spraying.

The trouble is that 3hp is about as big as you can go using a standard 13 amp plug. A larger receiver will help but is no substitute for a bigger pump.

With spraying it's not pressure that's important but the volume of air used in litres (or cubic feet/metres) per minute.
A compressor supplying 160 litres pm isn't much use if the gun is using 200 lpm, once the receiver is empty the compressor won't be able to keep up & the quality of the work will suffer.
Compressors, especially the cheaper ones, aren't designed to run continuously & will fail early.
Find out how much air your gun uses per minute & buy a compressor that can supply more.

Something that is non-combustable and absorbent - In a garage/workshop, sawdust is not a good idea, so go for a bentonite clay based litter.

For a compressor, bigger is (usually) better. The downside is the big ones are noisy, consume a lot of power, and are expensive.

Above is correct Pressure is about the same for all compressors, you little Screwfix one and one of the tow compressors they drill the road with run at 120-160 Pounds per square inch, PSI, the issue is FAD (free air delivered) from the Cubic feet per minute (CFM), So fill a bath with a 1/2 inch garden hose pipe, and then again with a 6" fire hose...... which one fills the bath first,,,,,,

Spray guns for car painting 12-15 cfm needed
Air wrench 1/2 drive. 6-14 cfm
Air chisel, 10-15 cfm
Stapler... 3-5 cfm

Your little 25 ltr tank DIY compressor runs about 2-5 cfm in the pump, but at the end of a 10 mtr hose, about 1-2 cfm.

Biggest CFM on a 13 amp 240v supply, is 15 at the pump, 10-11 at the hose end.

For car spraying search #HVLP sprayers like Apollo, but these won;t run tools.

Thanks i did buy one today but confused about the head fittings

I didnbuy 1/4 fittings which screw into the air impact gun and then has a nipple for the pipe to connect

I did buy a 10 meter extension pipe but cannot figure out how to connect it

Both ends look the same

My compressor has an input connector like below

Other side of the cable is push fit which looks like this

Now the house pipe is totally different and I cannot connect it to the compressor

I guess I need to remove the coil hose and the nut from the pipe above should fit straight away
