Now its all over for another year how did everyone's Christmas dinner go?
What was your best and worst part?
My best was the roast potatoes I tried putting a bit of flour on before putting into the oven, it worked well and something I will be doing from now on. Worst was the sprouts most of the bag were manky
good job I didn't need many as a fair few ended up in the bin.

It was brilliant. I am on the throne now typing this as I park it and send it to France.0

Best edible part, for me, was my home-made chestnut stuffing, which came out really well considering I couldn't find any sausagemeat, so had to buy a pack of sausages and dismantle them, and the worst was the sprouts; I'd bought them YS in our local supermarket, prepped & frozen them a couple of weeks ago, but they just weren't nice sprouts to start with. Will stick to buying proper sprout stalks from the market in future.Angie - GC Sept 25: £226.44/£450: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 28/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

The best bit for me was the roast potatoes as they were beautiful and crispy and the worst thing was definitely the sprouts. I normally love them but these were just bitter and horrible.0

Disaster time despite careful planning due to elderly mother deciding to come 2 hours early. It was all carefully arranged husband would collect her at 1.30 for lunch at 2. Then electricity supply went low the carefully frozen roast potatoes and parsnips failed to brown.* (saved by cooking on the hob) Next year - local pub or cook everything on Christmas Eve. Today : M and S ready prepared meal for neighbours - what can go wrong?
* husband blamed the dreadful display of weeping Santas etc on nearby estate draining the power in our remote town.0 -
It was fab, except for some Tesco garlic and herb mini-roasties which smelt rancid. Luckily I had time to do basic roast potatoes.0

It was delicious! I definitely liked the pink champagne.
Just I shared the food with three teenagers, so there was almost no gravy left for me & Definitely no leftovers. Roast Soup plans on hold til next year, along with bubble & squeak & other delicious ideas I read of here.
Fortunately there's a haggis or two on the horizon for New Year (as well as Burns Night, I *love* haggis) so I may get extra veggies sorted. Clearly the usual volume wasn't enough....0 -

I've seen a few comments this year about the sprouts not being good....mine too were not the best and usually my sprouts are lovely. Mine were sprouts from aldi super six sprouts.... I wonder if they were cheap as they were a different variety this year so the shops could sell them cheap ( as a veg gardener i know variety makes a big difference when cooking)0 -
Our sprouts were lish. We cooked them in the gammon coca cola from Christmas Eve. Then used some of the coke, gammon, sprouty water to make the gravy. Sticky toffee pud for pud was lovely too, if I do say so myself.
The worst was the stuffing balls with cranberry.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
