Rip off Car Insurance

My brother is a lazy sod and just renews his car insurance without looking around.
Except for this year.
Last year he paid £450, his renewal quote this year £870.
After searching online he got a quote of £275.
Phoned up his present insurer to see if they would reduce his premium, they re-quoted him £801 and said he wouldn't get it cheaper.
He changed his insurer.

Hence why the advice is to shop around each year at renewal or don't moan about prices!
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Wouldn't say it's a rip off, they are a business and that's how much they rate him as a customer. It's his fault if he hasn't bothered to shop around.0

Cant see any rip off here. He was invited to renew. They quoted their price. He was free to take his business elsewhere.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
