Electricity Prices

Have they significantly increased over the last year?

I'm a single fuel user, approx 3200 units a year. I'm always changing for the best deal. In recent memory prices haven't changed much for me. I'm with eon now paying approx £390 a year. Best deal prices now when comparing are approx £450?

I'll be on standard rate come Feb 2017. I think i'll take a nother look then in a hope the offers are more sensible.

Electricity prices are on the increase. Wholesale prices have risen by 15% due the fall in the £, and other industry costs are rising ( e.g.; keeping standby power stations available for use; network costs; climate change and a failed supplier levy). There is also a temporary issue with a damaged UK to France interconnector which has reduced capacity by 50% for the next 4 to 6 months. EDF has also just announced a price increase for electricity offset by a small reduction in gas prices.

I wouldn't hold my breath on the basis of electricity prices falling in the Spring.

Hello Dan_Morgan and you're right, accounts automatically move to our standard Energy Plan at the end of a fixed deal unless we're told differently.

You can change to another of our tariffs at any time without picking up an exit fee. These don't apply when switching between E.ON tariffs. You can also delay a tariff switch for up to 52 days in the future.

If you decide to change supplier, I suspect you're either inside or approaching the Price Protection window. It depends when in February your current tariff ends. The window's open 49 calendar days before the tariff end date until 20 working days after. Provided the new supplier contacts us during this time, we'll make sure you stay on the cheaper prices whilst a switch goes through. Also, exit fees don't apply whilst in this window.

We'll send a tariff renewal notice, usually between 42 and 49 days before the end date, to let you know your options.

Hope this is of interest Dan_Morgan.

My view is that February 2017 may well have already seen price rises in January .

However as an existing Eon customer, can you please confirm Dan_Morgan cannot switch to your cheapest tariff.

Sorry Cardew but I don't know enough about Dan_Morgan's circumstances to give a definite answer. My initial feeling from what's been posted is, as an existing single fuel customer, our cheapest prices will be available for a similar type of tariff currently on sale. This is based on daily standing charges and prices per kWh. It doesn't include discounts, payment adjustments or E.ON Rewards as these vary from customer to customer.

Dan_Morgan will have received notification of the impending end of the existing tariff and this will include details of the cheapest similar option with us. My advice would be to check out our website and the independent Price Comparison sites.

Sorry I can't be more definite and if my speculation above is off beam.
