Is there a thread for the best pastry recipe?
Last minute decision to make some mince pies with ds today.
Looking for the best suggestion of type of fat/ratios to use. Any other tips also welcome.
I hate making pastry (haven't made it for years) I can't stand the feeling of it but I do now own a food processor. Am I right thinking I can just put the fat and flour into that and it will do the 'rubbing in' for me?
Thanks

It's half fat to flour , but the fat needs to be trex or similar and butter
So 8oz plain flour
2 oz trex
2 Oz butter
Yes use the fp to get to the breadcrumb stage but add water and mix by hand. It's to easy to overwork the pasty in the fp and it will become tough0 -
Thanks
I don't have trex (and really don't fancy braving the shops today ) will lard work instead?0 -

I use lard
Just it's not good for veggies hence trex is the fat of choice nowadays
Luckily we aren't vegetarian in this household0 -
My favourite recipe is
4 oz self raising flour
4 oz plain flour
4 oz vegetable margarine
4 tablespoons of ice cold water
Add the water slowly to the breadcrumbs as you might not need it all. I do the whole thing in the food processor. I was always hopeless at pastry before this, You can adjust the amounts easily.0 -
There is one on the board here, provided by somebody's elderly neighbour, who was alive at the start of the thread, but then died 4-5 years ago.
