Just another 711,999 to go if you're wrong. If you are sure of the positions of the alphas, then as few as 65,000 guesses will do it. :-)

Its a long wait until 1:00am ish - so killing time with maths. What a way to spend a Saturday night. I'm a lot sadder than I thought.

i have been to Narbonne as last year we flew to Carcassone and got the train down to Argele and had to change and wait at Narbonne so explored for a couple of hours...

We always do trains so we get to see quite a few places...

We have got the overnight sleeper train back to Paris a few times which is a bit of an adventure for the kids..

By way of light relief, 2 alpha and 2 numeric (if you can guarantee that) is actually easier to guess than all alpha. There are, actually, only 702k combinations (not 1.7m). So anyone fancy starting to guess?????

Good point, if they stick with 2 alpha & 2 numeric then there are less possibilities, but I was working on the basis that it could be any combination of alphanumeric, so 36 to the power of 4 =1679696

The all alpha were easier because as well as being all alpha, they were in fact all 4 letter words that could be found in the dictionary (and usually vaguely holiday related!) so it wasn't quite the same as 4 digit alpha.
  • beautiful isnt it also agen is a nice place to go, we use the sncf/tgv allot and it really shows what our train service in the uk is lacking

Yes, the European trains are great - this year we will be getting the train up from the South of Spain to Barcelona so that's why I am looking for a site somewhere in reach of Barcelona...

My kids get to see so much of the countryside by travelling long distance on trains... Plus they have to interact with people in French and Spanish :)
