Wooden window costs?

Hi all,
I recently bought a victorian house that needs 3 windows replacing (we knew this was needed and so put aside some money). Two windows are upstairs and one downstairs. The two upstairs are standard sized (say 5 foot by 4 feet). The downstairs one is pretty big (5 foot by 7 foot and with an arch at the top). So far, we have got one quote (waiting for more) from a company that came recommended. They are quoting roughly £7k plus VAT (2k for the 2 normal ones and 3 for the biggie) ! We really want wood but that seems very expensive to us. This cost includes fitting painting, making good etc.... Is this fair? Are there any experts out there in this area that can give me an idea of what to expect?
Many thanks
Steve

Is this for normal casement windows or box sash windows and when you say the large window has an arched top is this the frame or is the frame straight and an arched timber piece on top of frameif you think peoples advice is helpfull please take the time to clicking the thank you button it gives great satisfaction0

Thanks for the responses. They are not sash windows. There is a horizontal partition (timber) about half way up and the top half opens via top hanging if that makes sense. The large window does have a timber arch at the top at the moment. The frame is arched too. I hope this helps. I don't want to be unreasonable with the contractor but need an idea of what prices are to be expected, roughly speaking, for this kind of job.0

Thanks. I'll have to get back with you on that in a few days as I'm away for Christmas at the moment. I thought it seemed a little expensive based on some of my own internet research but I also understand that there's time and effort involved in all of this. I had no idea of what the very big window would cost, but the 5 ft by 4ft ones, I expected, would be about 1-1.5k. As I said, the big one i expected would be pretty expensive as it is basically floor to ceiling with the top arch (no idea how this came to be but i like the way it looks).0

I paid about £5700 for three windows - one small and two large. But those were simple rectangular windows. Nothing fancy. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
