Petplan, unlike many policies they will also cover dental, all you need to do is have your vet note that they checked pups teeth at their yearly vaccine appointment.

Anyone's tried Tesco they are £23 a month cover up to £10000 per injury and cover dental and pay straight to vet. Almost half price to petplan who only difference I see is thee cover is 12k

Check with your Vet who they will deal with direct.

It's likely to be PetPlan because they are the best, very good reputation, experts and reputable.

The insurance companies can offer the facility to deal direct with Vet, but that doesn't guarantee the individual Vet practice will actually do so.

If your vet has agreed to direct claim that is good, is it life cover, or a twelve month policy.

Cover per condition is just that. Each claim is deducted from that original amount until there is nothing left then you are no longer covered for that condition.

Petplan's cover is per year so the sum insured is reinstated each year on policy renewal.

That is why Tesco is cheaper than Petplan as Tesco's cover is limited to a set amount while Petplan's cover could be much greater.

It is your choice what type of cover you choose.

Petplan is the best. Recommended by credible sources who see pet insurance used the most.

Yes, no matter what the insurers offer, you need to check that your vet will do direct claims. They have no legal obligation to, and many will have policies to say bills must be settled in full on the day.

My vets, for example, do direct claims with no questions asked from PetPlan. They're a reputable insurance company that vets tend to favour due to their likeliness and speed of paying out. They still do direct claims with other insurers, but charge a £25 admin fee (I guess some may require more admin than others - some insist on full veterinary histories every time, for example, or others may be slower at paying so require time chasing up).

However, if I went to a referall vet for a specialist operation, they have no history with me and probably wouldn't do a £5000 operation without some form of reassurance of payment - so I may have to get my insurance company to do what's called pre-authorisation (you phone and say the pet needs X operation, going to cost £Y, and they confirm to the vet that the claim will be authorised) or pay myself and claim back the cost from the insurance to me. It's part of the reason I got a credit card and have let the limit be increased - I could put everything on there and claim back from my insurers if needed.

Direct claim depends on the vet agreeing to do it, not on the insurance.

If you want the best cover - go for PetPlan 12k for life. You will always have to pay excess yourself (for each condition) and excess will increase with the age of the dog but at least PetPlan is recognised by all vets so they are likely to accept direct claims and PetPlan does not jump with premiums like others do
