Patio quote

Options
Hi guys

Any feedback on this quote please

The tradesman is a friend of a good friend and he has a good reputation

The patio is 31m2, so to dig out, frame with 4x2 lay down 30mm to dust, compact with wacker plate, and lay slabs £1800 as long as slabs are not tiny

This includes supply of materials, but not the slabs.

Cheers

What about edging stones? Membrane? And base...is he planning to dot dab? If so, run a mile. How deep is the sub base? Is he taking away the waste? Labour can vary a lot depending on the slabs, sounds like he's a jobber rather than a professional as slabs should be laid with care, avoiding seams meeting perpendicular, and I'd be asking about the slabs, specifically, before quoting.

    What is "dot dab"?

Otherwise known as Spot or dab bedding

Where each individual slab is laid on "dollops" of mortar rather than a screed. We always ask where the horse has gone if spot is used around here.

I had similar quotes for a patio a year or so ago. When asked about what depth to which digging out was to be done, it turned out that none of them were going to dig out to the approved depth below the dpc.

I went with the quote that was twice as much, but which ensured the job was done properly.
