We bought our Christmas meal at Lidl last year and it ruined the day. Turkey, gravy, stuffing, pigs in blankets, all tasted disgusting. We'll never make that mistake again!0

'Disgusting' in comparison to turkey, gravy (does anyone actually buy gravy?), stuffing, pigs in blankets bought from which shop?
I collected 3 500g tubs of M&S "posh turkey gravy made with marsala" this morning. It's damned tasty and worth every penny of the £12 I spent on it. One tub for the Big Day and 2 others to put in the freezer. Yes, I'm being lazy but as I've got more than enough entertaining to do over the next week I'm happy to pay to cut a few corners. Even the M&S bread sauce, cranberry sauce and red cabbage aren't up to it though - they will all be homemade.0 -

The 'gravy' comment was tongue-in-cheek, I do know a lot of people who buy gravy especially at Christmas and also buy frozen veg, whereas even though - or more probably because there's just the 2 of us - we cook everything from scratch (including the gallon of gravy made from the meat juices).
Have a good one. Hope Arnold enjoys it too.0 -

Never had a Christmas with just us, but our parents aren't the youngest so I get to cook every year. It's a tough call as to who is the most demanding - the 6 year old sprog or the 85 year old MIL
I am fully prepared for all eventualities as I have built a small wall of boxes of prosecco in the garage. I can go and hide behind it if it all gets too much
Enjoy your, hopefully, less trying day :T0 -
the moral of the story is they are letting you know that all the problems they face in life this is about as bad as it gets...

DOH!!!
Really sorry, I got you mixed up with Suki (Arnold is the new cat)
Enjoy your gravy with marsala - it sounds fab.
Jeez! I couldn't cope with a new cat on top of the MIL, my aged parents and a hyperactive kid :rotfl:
On the plus side the husband is currently cleaning 3 bathrooms and the downstairs toilet. I'm watching the dinner cooking in the oven0 -
Well I'm not happy with M&S. Placed a Christmas food order with them for the first time ever. Queued for over an hour. When it was my turn they said they had been let down on the turkey crowns and did not have any. They suggested a turkey breast which looked tiny.
I ordered a good 3 weeks ago. Queued for over an hour and don't have the most important bit of the meal. Really not happy :mad:0 -

I remember a few years back standing in the car park of an M&S food store the day before Xmas eve crying because they had no turkey left. I had to give myself a good talking to, !!!!!! I thought to myself...go get something else, make do... if the biggest thing you have to cry about is turkey, then you're lucky.
Btw, as of M&S prices...I'll be there checking it out tomorrow for any YS bargainsFeb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16
