O/S Daily Friday 23 December 2016
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and getting ready for work, boys still in their pits.
Still dark here, damp and dirty, temperature has really dropped too, although yesterday we did have some lovely sunshine for a while, rain forecast for later here.
Dinner last night was individual chicken, wild mushroom and tarragon pies, chips and gravy - and very nice it was too. Tonight will be roasted pieces of chicken, potatoes, veg and gravy or maybe something different, perhaps pasta and sauce/rice.
I'm really pleased with how productive I was yesterday - my get up and go that had got up and gone seems to have returned! I was in the MrL**l at 7.10am yesterday morning, assuming it would be very busy - alongside the staff I was on the only customer in the shop until 7.45am - it was fantastic everywhere fully stocked and just me shopping - I got pretty much everything I wanted except a whole brie, they don't sell whole ones, but didn't have any portion pieces either, so when I left there I called in at MrT - and that wasn't busy either. I came home got the shopping put away then went to town to visit the building society and bank, put card through the door at SIL's, bought some huge gift bags (prezzies for my bro and sis's are wicker food hampers, not easy to wrap so will be going in gift bags), also bought outlaws gift voucher, so all shopping now done, although I can still think of things we "could" have but apart from collecting my fresh meat hamper from the butchers tomorrow morning I won't be going near any more shops! What we haven't got now, we'll go without. I also got my xmas cake iced, a bit late, but it's done. I did also get majority of the washing done, most dried, but still some more to go - so today's plan is - get all washing, drying and ironing done, housework, make the base for the cheesecake at some point this afternoon, so I can then make the filling and it can have overnight in the fridge to set, also then need to make the apple tart - these are the desserts I'm taking for tomorrow nights' meal at mums. It's the first time I've made this apple tart - so if it goes well, it'll be something to put on my dessert list, it doesn't look to difficult but we'll see how it tastes. I also just have a couple of prezzies to wrap - so will get them done too, I'll get them all put under the tree too.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the thread nmlc.
It's blowing a hoolie out there with epic rain showers, hope everyone stays safe, must be worse with you Gers.
I've had visitors for the past couple of days, lovely to see them but unfortunately I was at work during the day so had to catch up in the evenings, I'm so tired! I've also got the end of term cold, typical, poorly when I get a holiday.
The house is just about ship shape, loving the kitchen, I'll put pictures up when I have a minute. I think my favourite thing is the pulley in the laundry, thanks Gers!
Hope you're feeling better JackieO and enjoy the wedding.
My thoughts are with those with a lot on their mind.
Last day today and I finish at 2.30, I'm going to the bank to pay in my £365 from the £1 a day fund then I'll get the last couple of foodie bits. I was at Aldi at about 6pm yesterday and it wasn't too bad, the staff were keeping everything topped up and working so hard.
Have a good day. Take care. XX0 -

Scampi had a fab day yesterday. In the morning we bumped into his mate Milo so they played for a while. He dozed for most of the afternoon then we headed out to play with Ted and Mable. The walk was a barky, lunging nightmare (car headlights!) so we decided to walk down the path next to the field, which is pitch black. I had to use the phone as a torch, I couldn't see a thing, lol. The three of them zoomed around friend's house, I thought it was a bit much so said I'd get him to sit with me in the kitchen for a few minutes to calm it down a bit, I was firmly told no, let them carry on. Ted and Mable refuse to walk on wet grass so this was the first proper exercise they'd had for days
The turkey is defrosting in the fridge, the cards have been delivered and the presents are all wrapped. I'm going to put the gammon in the oven, pop to Morrisons for milk, cream, fruit and veg then go and see FIL. That'll be boring because he and mr tru will talk about rugby while I sit there with nothing to add to the conversation. I always end up looking at the clock, wondering if we've been here long enough for it to count as a proper visit, and can we go home now?

Morning everyone.
It's blowing a hoolie here. Has been for a lot of the night so I'm not travelling today. The forecast has been revised for tomorrow for less wind than previously thought so I may get away tomorrow.
Camelot - your kitchen looks completely fabulous, well done in having the vision and the patience. And for the nerve to have it done so close to Christmas. The pulley was lying unopened in the barn for two years so it's great that you can use it. Doesn't stop me being so jealous though!
The presents are now wrapped and in the various bags ready for collection or delivery. Venison is being brought to me later today, I'm getting two loins so it's one for Christmas and one for later.
I've got the final batch of puddini to decorate so I'll be fiddling with tiny bits of sticky glac! cherries for most of the morning.
Hugs and thoughts to those who are under the weather or looking after family.
Happy Christmas Eve Eve.0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. No sign of Storm Barbara here yet, all is calm outside (for now anyway!)
Mr TA picked up as the day wore on yesterday so I am hoping I am safe to say he is now on the mend. Sadly it's now my turn! My throat is so sore and when I cough and start bringing gunge up I could cry. It can't stop the Friday clean though as everywhere looks so neglected. I shall dose myself up with cough meds and honey and lemon and carry on regardless. Oh I hate winter and all the bugs it brings with it.
There are still boxes and bags of presents everywhere. DD dropped all ours off last night too to add to the growing collection. Hers and DGDs from us are getting dropped off tomorrow to her next door neighbour, to be taken round when the girls have gone to bed.
I am doing a small gammon joint for today's eats. We will have it warm at lunchtime with egg and chips I think and then cold tonight with some salad and baby new potatoes. I have so many jobs to catch up on I haven't time to spend half the day in the kitchen.
Have a good day if you can and, as always, ((HUGS)) to all the poorlies, worried and anxious. I know Christmas isn't a happy time for everybody and my thoughts are with the sad too. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Hi all,
Just popping my head in to wish you all a Happy Christmas and big hugs to those who have lost love ones, including pets x
I have also finished my Christmas shopping, those of you that have to work right upto Christmas don't need those of us with time on our hands cluttering up the aisles
Making Meringues today for Pavolva Puddings, and will also make the Yorkshire Puddings, not traditional, but DS2 would be really upset if he doesn't get one:)
Using some LO Pork to make a Thai curry for dinner.
Be safe all x The 'Weather bomb' looks like it will miss us - thankfully...Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

Morning everyone,
Thanks for the thread nmlc, had a  moment when reading your post when I realised that I haven't iced the cake, will have to marzipan it today and ice tomorrow, would leave it bare but DOH loves the toppings.
Glad you like your kitchen Camelot, am sure it is well christened by now
Will be leaving in a while to spend the day with Mum, have told my SIL to go out and give herself a break for a few hours, she is frazzled. Mum is a poor old thing, we have increased the morphine again as the pain has been stepping up over the last couple of days, she is also getting more breathless. The hospice lady was round again yesterday and is looking after us all, they do a fantastic job for sure.
Luckily my DOH is doing most of the jobs today, picking up the turkey, veg etc and will hoover through, that just leaves me the cake when I get home and mince pies etc tomorrow.
Glad to hear that you are feeling better Jackie, enjoy the family wedding x
:j to Scampi and his play date
Thanks as always for the carol TRU, it does cheer me every day to see which one is going to come up.
Have a good day everyone x0 -
Ah good morning everyone,
I say good morning, but it's pitch black and it's raining hard.
My friend who I car share with and go to the gym in the mornings was off today, so I opted for a long lie after nodding off to sleep around 10.30. Feeling a bit more alive this morning.
Didn't get up to too much last night as the early night suggests. Work today and work tomorrow which will be followed by a nice meal with the immediate family.
nmlc - a very productive day indeed. I take my hat off to you.
camelot - well done on sticking to your £1 a day! Do you physically put a pound coin in a jar?
Lainey - have a nice day with your DM
Islandmaid - Merry Christmas to you too
I will likely check in tomorrow and probably on Xmas day too, but for those of you who wont, have a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2017.0 -
Morning all
The fish have been fed and my L&M has been dropped at work, I should have a childfree day today, so I will have another glitter purge and do the last of the washing.
FIL phoned last night, I was polite but distant, he's going into hospital to day to have surgery on his leg, I wished him all the best but made no offer of help, yes I'm a callous cow, but he has caused my L&M so much grief since MIL died, playing one brother off against the other.
More problems at work yesterday for my L&M, it's been decided that his team can no longer finish at lunchtime today, they must work until 5, they were told this yesterday. The team have finished at lunchtime every year for the last 12 years I've worked there, but to suddenly produce a list of extra jobs and tell them yesterday lunchtime is disgusting.
I will be getting my sewing machine out today as I have a rather large pile of mending to attack and then it's back to the crochet, I've nearly finished the first cushion cover.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning, ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.
I need to attempt the Friday clean, OH will push the dyson round. I have to iron the duvet cover, did the pillow cases and sheet yesterday, was too tired to do the cover. I really need to do a load of coloured washing too, there will be far too much if I leave it over the holiday. Will see what the weather is like, I can finish it off either on the airer or in the dryer.
We had a visit from the little Baptist church float last night, we got offered a chocolate from a big tin, and an envelope with a calendar in and a pen. They stayed and played carols in the street for quite a while. We were going to go out with them, but I was too tired so we stayed in the warm. We will not be at the Christmas morning service Dd2 has asked us to be there around 11am.
No sign of my ex getting out of hospital. DD1 suggested to him that he thinks about moving to either a flat or a bungalow, apparently he was adamant he was staying where he is, so that's that. She was not happy, but has told him she will go up two or three times a week to try and keep the place clean and see he is eating properly.
Time to get out my pit and get on......0 -
