Take a trip to palm beach on the bus and then the ferry. It is a beautiful secluded country park, with safe swimming in the lagoon.
Take a tour in the blue mountains and have billy tea and watch boomerang throwing.
Go to Paddys markets. That was one of my favourites, I even got a free bag.
Have dinner in the chinese quater.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

Ferry from Darling Harbour around to the main harbour - under the bridge, good view of the Opera House
Guided tour of the Opera House
Sky Tower (have tours every hour or so)
or
Supreme Court of NSW - 11th floor - have breakfast and take in the views0 -
Spend the evening touring Kings Cross: that will really excite the wife!0

the wife is at home, i am in the holiday inn on the edge of king cross, trying to assess in this kings cross is the same as kings cross back home.....0

Take the ferry from Circular Quay to Watsons Bay, about 45 minutes, fantastic sea food restaurant on the beach (Doyles) with views right through the harbour to the bridge. Pass all the millionaires houses on the way.

Kings Cross is definitely NOT a place to visit together with your wife. If she hears that you have been there on your own she is likely to get excited and emotional, but perhaps not be very pleased!0 -
Ferry to Manley?0

thank you all for the advise, i am in mackay now, and travel to auckland tomorrow.
i did the ferry, although only round to darling harbour.
i drank wine outstide the opera house, ate lovely food, rode the subway, bought a wii (£154 after claiming tax back) and watched the sydney marathon on sunday.
oh, and got hammered in the kings cross pubs on saturday night - got offered heroin 3 times, 2 hookers and a ladyboy!
not bad for one night ! finished the night off with one of the finest cuts of meat known to man - a kebab!
even though the hotel was in kings cross, to have a view of you your bedroom window of the opera house, harbour bridge and sydney tower, cannot be beaten!!
thanks again for the suggestions.0
