Looking at "Your" old house on Street View!

Hi

Does anyone else do this?

I do from time to time via Street View, see how the house is getting on.

We sold our house 10 years ago but it still feels like part of me if that makes sense?

Anyway, from the outside it now looks neglected.

We always kept it so well maintained.

Feel a bit sad for it.

Anyone else? :D

Yes, I look, but I don't feel any remorse. My old place is rather neglected, but I know the folks living there really like it; they're just bad at gardening and DIY.

I also look at houses I lived in as a child/younger person, both on Street View and Rightmove. Again, it may be interesting to see the changes, but I have no emotional attachment to them now.

Looking at my current property, poor old Mr Google is way behind the curve, and that does irritate me, mainly because we've made huge changes in the past 3 years. The best he can do is 2010.

Only last week, a firm coming here to fit a new wood burner, drove right past, because the house bore no resemblance to what they'd seen on the screen.
  • All the time! I too get sad when I see it is neglected. And as above, google hasn't been past our current house since we moved in - no aerial view either and there are loads of changes. That does annoy me!

Yes, I've looked at my old house in Scotland - what I can see of it. Somebody has planted a tree in the front border, right next to the house, which has grown to the point where the house is barely visible!

Yep...sometimes. Mainly to check whether the area it's in went the way I estimated it would since I left - ie downhill. It has....rubbish lying around everywhere and that wasn't allowed to be the case whilst I lived there (ie by me).

Out of interest - I've checked my parents starter house.

I just had another google and there are two houses that are very similar in England.

Both little mid-terrace houses, straight on the street, in one out of several rows of terrace houses going up the hill, with cornershop nearby (now gone and turned into a house), primary school nearby, main transport facilities nearby, general facilities a reasonable walk away. One is my parents starter house in their city and one is my starter house in my city.

I can't begin to think where I got the idea from of what a starter house is like:rotfl:

....and I've got as near as I can manage for a lifetime house too to what my parents lifetime house is like:rotfl:(I was annoyed to miss out on one like theirs that I had my eye on - as it was sold before I could get to it....).

I only live down the road so I sometimes have a drive past when we're up that way visiting relatives.

I don't look at my old place on street view as it's not been updated since I left 6 years ago, but I have been sent photos and also driven past, something I won't do again as the consensus of opinion among all those that know the place is that the developers, (if they could be called that) who bought it have totally destroyed it - inside and out!! :( It's a real lesson in what NOT to do with an 1830s farmhouse :(

Its not as if street view is live streaming is it? You cant look at it every week, month or even year (some times several) and expect to see an update!

Our old house on streetview has my car in the drive that I had in 2007. The house we are in now, although there is streetview, the overhead view shows a building site (house is 10 years old).
  • Nope - I never look back.
I don't get emotionally attached to bricks and mortar, the 'home' part travels with me. Also, I have been lucky that my house moves have been to better things so i'm not even slightly interested in what the old ones look like now.

Google Street View is stuck at 2009 for my current house.
