    Well done

But DAMN that was easy.... I've been applying for jobs and don't even get an interview. And people who I know who apply, it still seems to take up to 2 months to get through the process to start.

That was 1 week from "I want a job" to "I've got a job"

    Good luck!!
    And enjoy!
  • I have a little experience in working in recruitment - one thing that leaps to mind when you say you aren't getting interviews is that you may not be filling in applications properly as I used to see this happen all the time. If you are given a person specification take each point and answer it individually giving an example of how you have demonstrated that skill in the past. Address each point as it is laid out, don't just read the spec and then write 2 or 3 papragraphs rambling on about what you currently do etc!

I hope that helps and GOOD LUCK!

I'm thinking about starting to look for a new job soon too :undecided

My current issue is I haven't been able to do "my job" for 5 years due to where I was living. And I spent £2k last year qualifying at the highest level.

So now I am stuck between:
    1) Applying for jobs I am experienced/qualified at - but haven't actually done for 5 years, so "not quite up to it maybe", even though I have the qualification most people don't, which I paid for myself thus showing commitment to wanting to do this work again.
    2) Being over-qualified for more junior roles. I don't care how junior a job is, I'll apply for anything in my field. Sometimes the lower jobs have been "Assistant to what I do" - and some of them have been "Office Manager for what I do" and some of them have been specific roles within the job.

The jobs I am applying for are in IT contracting, so they aren't having to make a permanent job decision. I'd have thought they'd have loved to have had somebody over-qualified on the team for a 3 month contract.

I've applied for jobs from £14/hour to £150,000 per year. Realistically, I feel my salary range for what I do is £30-40/hour, £50-70,000 per year. (I was earning £30/hour 7 years ago doing this job and didn't have the higher qualification then).

I know the first contract will be the hardest to get .... I just need ONE recent contracting job on my CV and it's all systems go again.
  • Have you thought about going through an agency? Not sure if they're any good for the sort of thing you do though! Good luck anyway!

99% of that work is by default through an agency.
There is only one real place to look for such work, where all the good/top agencies post their adverts. So I will be going through an agency.

    Who knows.
    Sucks doesn't it.
Bottom line is: there's always a hidden agenda with interviews... so you'll never know.

Years ago it was hard to get a job as I was "child bearing age". Now I'm not it's the "too old" ticket.

I don't put my dob on my CV. And if they work it all back .... I come out 10 years younger as I left off the first 10 years of jobs as they were in an entirely different field so not relevant :)

They can find out what I was doing 30 years ago when they interview me ... if they're interested that I used to type!
