I need to find a job

Hi Guys

Well the time has come for some serious job hunting now!

My tax credits have finished - hubby earned too much last year!

My problem is I crack at interviews, I have always worked but for the last 2 years have been unable too as I have the kids and hubby works long hours and I have no-one to look after them. I'm fine before interview but when I go in I feel really thick and I feel that I should not be there. Some-one once told me the best way to relax is to lok at the interviewer and imagine them naked!!!!!! :rotfl: I tried but it did not work and I felt on my last interview I just flummoxed my way through it, hence did not get job!!

Any ideas??????????

  • Practise! Daft as it sounds its a great way to get your brain trained into responding to interview questions easily. Rope in everyone you can and get them to interview a few times and give you feedback after each session. Using different people allows you to adapt to the change in styles.

    Avoid interviews completely (almost) then
Sign up with employment agencies for temp work. Their "interview" isn't interviewing you for a job, but just checking they know what you can do and what work you fancy.
Then you go temping - and VERY often, the job you are doing is available.
I bet if you went temping then within 6 months you'd be in a permanent job without an interview!
  • Hiya

I was just saying that to hubby, I used to temp and was always offerered perm work at the end without interviews!!:j

I have always hated being the "new girl" but if I go temping I know it is only temporary if i want it to be;)

I think I will phone up some agencies on monday and get some appointments.

    Wish me luck!

I'm temping at the moment. There's a permanent job where I am - that I knew about from the start.

But from temping, I knew by day 3 I didn't want to work there!

It's great for cutting through the interview lies and finding out what a company is REALLY like to work for. They will always tell you the company's great, got a future, people love working for it ... then you get there and find it's oppressive and you daren't go to the loo as somebody's keeping count/commenting on what other people do/are doing.
  • Spot On!!!!!

I think temping is def the way forward for me, as I have not worked for 2 years its difficult to get references, as my last job have all new staff and no-one can write a ref for me as they dont have a clue who I am!!

However, there is a night receptionist for a huge hotel advertised and I used to work in hotels before I had kids and loved it, so Im gona phone them on monday as well as agencies.

Will keep posting to how I am getting on, thanks for all your advice

Of course you should be there! they have chosen to meet you on the basis of what you have written outlining your skills and experience!

believe me, if they didnt want you there you wouldnt be ;)

    Good luck for Monday!
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
