Old address with Virgin, Virgin does not supply the new postcode.
There was a BT line at new address, no reason to think it is not in working order, there is a line outlet in the living room.

BT wants £61 engineers fee minimum to connect.
Not sure what they offered but £29 a month comes to mind.

Talk Talk willing to waive engineers fee of £50

Talk Talk offering Minimum speed 6.8Mbs
for 18 months
£22.95 per month
set up fees free
first bill free
After 18 months £25.50 per month
All call charges to service numbers beginning with 084/087/09 and 118 will consist of 2 parts; an access charge and a service charge. Our access charge is 5p per min from TalkTalk landlines.

Is there anything I should know?
Any advice who to go with?

Thanks

Most people benefit from having an anytime inclusive calls allowance covering all of their calls to 01, 02 and 03 numbers with nothing further to pay. Taking a "weekend" or "evening and weekend" deal and then paying extortionate rates for weekday daytime calls is usually a very bad idea.

Most landline providers offer inclusive calls to mobile numbers starting 071-075 and 077-079. BT is among the very few that do not (but you can get round this by using a dial-through provider offering an 03, 0845 or 0870 access number and using inclusive calls to those numbers).

All 084, 087, 09 and 118 numbers are premium rate. Avoid these numbers as much as possible. Since these numbers are banned for customer services, financial services and public services there should be little or no need to call these numbers. Some providers offer inclusive calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers but there should be little need to use them (unless using a dial-through provider to avoid charges for other numbers).

    Hi thanks,

I use the landline very little, at work all day, and I never call anyone, when I do call I use 1899 call provider on an access number 0808 (can't remember it) but from a BT/talk talk line should be able to access on the 1899 number (?)
OH uses this service to call France (1p per minute) 3 times every day .

If all of those other calls approach anything like £8 per month, ditch 1899 and get the BT Anytime call plan with inclusive calls to 01, 02 and 03 numbers, caller display, voicemail 1571 and calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers.

Use dial-through providers that have 03, 0845 or 0870 numbers that are inclusive in your allowance to call mobile numbers, other 084 and 087 numbers and international numbers. These calls will then incur no further charges.

If you go with TalkTalk you will also have inclusive calls to mobile numbers but will not have inclusive calls to 0845 or 0870 numbers. You will still be able to use 03 dial-through providers to contact France and other destinations at no extra charge.
  • Try Origin Broadband. 17.99 a month for line rental and broadband upto 17mb or pay a year upfront for £14.30 per month or 2 year upfront for £12.50 a month. 100% UK based which has been a dream when speaking to customer service. I'm on 76my fibre. Excellent service, never had a dropout,Max line speed 69mb,never get less than 66mb. Been with Sky, BT and Talk talk before, Origin are far superior for service wish I'd changed earlier.
