Car insurance madness

Good day all!
I thought I'd join and see what you all think of this madness with my car insurance quotes.
I have two cars. A 2011 Fiat Punto EVO 1.6l Diesel Multijet and an imported 2009 Ford Mustang 4l Petrol V6.
I am 27, held my licence for 9 years and have two years no claims from one car (on the Mustang) and one year on the Punto. I live just outside London and have had no accidents, points, speeding tickets etc.
The Mustang insurance cost me £1315 for 12 months with £600 excess and all the extras you can get - I expected it to be more, so am quite pleased!
My renewal came up for my Punto at an astonishing £1126! It only cost me £670 for 10 months with Admiral previously. But even Admiral could only knock it down to £946 (10 months).
I have shopped around using the great guide on MSE, and the best I've found is £1160 (12 months). And even the excess is still £300-£500.
Does anybody else think this is crazy? Or possibly know why this would be?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Dave
P.S. Both policies are comprehensive, no box fitted and paid in full.

any accidents, regardless of fault and/or points in the last 5 years?"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

You forgot to mention that the Mustang is on a limited mileage policy0

maybe a car insurance broker maybe able to help you, i don't remember paying that much even with 1 year ncb for a standard car. Perhaps it's the postcode that is higher risk"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Shouldn't have made it rise that much, as I've moved during the policy which caused it to rise by £50 anyway (taken into account above). Not a bad area either.
Thanks for that suggestion.
Edit: Just checked my Mustang broker. They came up with over £2k!!!0 -

You say that you used one year's NCB on the Punto and I am wondering if it was actually only a 10 month's introductory NCB as some insurers don't give as much discount for that as they do for a year.
I am also wondering if there are any other people and cars in your household at all and maybe that is affecting the quote??
For example you don't have a named driver on the Punto policy that is more of a risk than you and the insurance companies are quoting accordingly??
Aside from that I think that although the quote is expensive, sadly that is just the way that insurance premiums are especially when you live in a supposed "bad area".0
