PPI & Debt Management Plan

Options
On a DM plan with Stepchange and was awarded PPI years ago, Bank have not advised Stepchange and therefore they do not know what actual outstanding balance is, Stepchange advise to speak to bank to get an up to date outstanding amount, bank say due to data protection they can't tell me amount. Asked
ombudsman, who contacted bank who then said as over 6 months they would not deal with them. All I want to know is what is actually owed now. Also appears that the interest amount on offer letters was deducted, I guess this is due to being on a DM plan but still can't get any confirmation or anyway to check this is correct. Can anyone offer any advise, I can't imagine this is the first time this has happened to anyone.

    Are you saying you were awarded a PPI refund some years back and have yet to receive it? If so, why exactly haven't you demanded this money be paid before now?

    The Bank are certainly obliged to tell the account holder the outstanding balance and wouldn't deny this on the basis of data protection unless you are not the account holder or you did not provide sufficient evidence of your identity. Similarly, the Ombudsman would only be unable to help if a complaint failed more than six months ago-but you say you were successful in your complaint ("awarded PPI").

    If you are the account holder, you could send the Bank a Subject Access Request (SAR) letter. This will cost £10, but should provide you with all information the Bank has kept on file for you...

    Your post does not contain enough information for the forum to properly help you further, please clarify exactly what your problem is..
  • Over 6 years ago I was awarded PPI, as I was on a DM plan I understood this would be used to reduce the outstanding balance rather than be paid to me (no argument with this). When after a few months the amount shown on the stepchange statement did not change I contacted them, they told me to contact bank who would not provide me with a statement to forward to stepchange (Data protection, and yes I am account holder). I then visited a local branch who gave me a screen shot of the amounts paid (this is where I realised the interest had not been paid) as this is not a statement, not even on a letterhead stepchange can't use this to reduce the balance. I then tried ombudsman who could not assist due to 6 month rule. What I want is for myself and Stepchange to know exactly what is still outstanding.

    As above, send the Bank a SAR letter..

    Might also be worth posting about this on the IVA & DRO board;

    The six month rule only aplies if you want to challenge the utcome of the complaint.

    You don;t want to make a complaint about the PPI, you want to make a complaint about the outstanding baance not dropping ude to the redress being applied to the debt.

    Make a complaint ro the bank that the balance has not changed despite the PPI redress and see what they say.

    Or, as above, send them a SAR nd £10 to see what they did with the account.It's possible the redress just went against the interest outstanding on the debt so the capital has not reduced.

    You could ask this in the debt free wannabe board too.
