O/S Daily Thursday 22 December 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now going to work, DS2 still in his pit.

Still dark here, damp and dirty, frosty, but not raining as yet.

Dinner last night was beef casserole, dumplings, mash and veg, tonight I'm not sure but I'm going to get my fresh bits this morning, so I'll sort that then.

Yesterday work was generally quiet, but we had times where it was all or nothing, not helped by the fact that for part of the morning, we had no computer access.

Today I have a rather long "to do" list - firstly the food shopping, then into town for the bank/building society, then need to put card through SIL's door for nephew, ice xmas cake, do the washing, drying and ironing, wrap last couple of prezzies, housework etc.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone.

Up and about though I wish I was still under the duvet. Got the final teaching session of the year this morning and then will do a tiny bit of shopping.

The weather may mean I won't get down to Glasgow so I need to get some fresh milk and vegs just in case.

The new chest freezer is getting down to temperature. :j

Hugs to those who fancy one.

    Happy Thursday to all.

Apart from hoovering the stairs, sweeping the kitchen floor and paying the car tax, today is all about Christmas things. I want the boring stuff out of the way by 9.30am so I can concentrate on cards, wrapping and Christmas24 :D I'm going to a friend's house later, I'm dreading it and looking forward to it at the same time – I'm walking Scampi there, he gets on great with their two dogs. It's only about half a mile away but we have to walk along the main road in the dark, all that traffic with scary headlights means the walk is going to be eventful, lol.

  • :xmastree:Good morning all, thank you nmic for starting us off.

I was up very early this morning, thought I could hear noises downstairs, but I think it was the cat. I needed to be up anyway to put the bins out.

Himself is still asleep, I have had my first coffee and now going to have a slice of toast

We are out for most of the morning. I want to go and buy the turkey crown firstly and any other bits, then off to see my DS and BIL for a catch up and I have some gifts t give her from DD. We don't actually buy each other anything these days, which makes life easier.

I am going to have my hair trimmed early this afternoon, it seems to grow so quickly although it isn't nearly as thick as when I was younger.

Tru thank you so much for the lovely carols, what a lovely way to start each day leading up to Christmas.

I hope you all manage to have a good Christmas and sending hugs to all poorlies with nasty colds and tummy bugs.

    Much love

    Candlelightx
  • Good morning, I've been up for a couple of hours, after a decent sleep, so a good start to the day.

Yesterday I cleaned. Today I need to do a little last minute shopping, wrapping (my bugbear, am not a good wrapper) and I need to think about decorations, though I normally do that om the final Saturday before Christmas. Tomorrow I am seeing a friend.

Once I get final gifts wrapped, my time is my own, a lovely feeling, I can do some baking with no time constraints.

I hope everyone has a good day.

    Good morning everyone :santa2:

It's cold and dark outside but my Christmas tree lights are twinkling away and cheering me right up. Hubby has left for work clutching a big tin of chopped up pork pie for his work's buffet this afternoon. He is in holiday mode now as all his work is up to date although he doesn't finish until tomorrow lunchtime.

DD16 stayed up all night watching films so we won't see her this morning although she will have to get up and help put away the big Christmas shop that is being delivered today.

We had the grandchildren all day yesterday and much as I love them I was very pleased when they went home as I was exhausted. They are as fizzy as a bottle of pop with excitement, we are having them again this afternoon so I am hoping they will sit with me and watch a Christmas film.

My dear friend is coming over for a coffee later on today. She has just been diagnosed with fibromyalga and is quite upset about it. She is a full time carer of her daughters who have M.E and various mental health difficulties so she doesn't have time to be ill herself. I just hope her partner will help to lift the load a bit for her.

I am cooking a huge piece of gammon today so we shall have some of it for tea with chips and egg. The rest will be refridgerated until cold and then hubby will get out the meat slicer and slice it up so we will have some for sandwiches and some will be frozen.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning all, thanks for the thread nmlc xx your to do list puts members to shame :(

Thanks for the carol tru and good luck later with the walk. Lovely to hear scampi will see his pals tho xx

I am off to work shortly then off from tomorrow until the new year. Ive had the last two days off as I needed to use up annual leave. I saw my sister yesterday - she is a remarkable woman to have to deal with all that is going on. She managed to speak coherently about all the arrangements without breaking down which is a major achievement I think. What a woman.

Tonight I will finish the ironing I started yesterday (I'm sure it breeds) then feet up with a large rum n Coke I think. Tomorrow we will be picking up my mum and dad and bringing them here. Dad may then go to his sister in laws for Christmas or stay with us - he is still sorting himself out (my parents have been divorced 35 years but are fine to be around each other).

Hugs to all those in need xx and have a good day all,
    Coxy xx

  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. We are still awaiting the onslaught of Storm Barbara hereabouts. She is forecast to hit us tomorrow. Meanwhile a fine day is forecast for today.

Mr TA was still out for the count yesterday. Drained of energy and lifeless. Just laid on the sofa all day. He was sick at one point too. I am now thinking this is one of the bugs doing the rounds and not connected to his illness or last week's op. We didn't make it to DB's with their presents the way he was so they popped up in the evening and we did our mass gift swap then. They didn't stop long the way Mr TA was. It was still nice to see them though as we didn't get chance for a chat after the funeral Monday. SIL's first Christmas without her mum will be sad for her but she is going through the motions for the sake of her girls and DGC.

We should be going to Leeds for Mr TA's monthly injection this morning. If he is no better I think I will re-arrange for after Xmas, though he is supposed to have it every 28 days. If he is like yesterday there is no way he could cope with the tedious bus & train journeys there and back.

Christmas will have to take us as it finds us this time I'm afraid. None of the thorough cleaning jobs planned for this week have been done and still odd bits of groceries left to shop for. I am not worrying about it. Once of a day I would have been running about like a headless chicken. With age and illness you learn to get your priorities in order.

I don't know whether I will be cooking or what today. Mr TA just didn't want to eat yesterday so the makings of yesterday's meals are still in the fridge. Will see what today brings when he gets up.

Have a good day and ((HUGS)) where wanted/needed to all the poorlies, worried and anxious. Take care all xx

    Morning everyone,

It's a clear day so seems a bit lighter this morning.

Yesterday was lovely, we thoroughly enjoyed our Yule lunch and it was so good just to be out together, have so little of that at the moment and made the most of it. We also swapped our cards to each other, dont really care about presents any more but I look forward to my card every year, wasn't disappointed and DOH wrote some beautiful words in it :)
Today will be busy, have a list of bits that Mum wants me to pick up, then over to see her for the rest of the morning, next a quick trip into town for haircut and then will drive over to other SIL to deliver presents.
Hope Mr TA feels better soon, think it's a good idea to cancel his appointment to the new year and give him chance to fully recover.
Hugs to Coxy, all poorlies and those with a heavy heart x

    Have a good day everyone.

I'm sorry Mr TA is still feeling rough. I am getting over some sort of bug but still don't have much of an appetite.

I'm up fairly early because DD was whatsapping from India, I think she has got the time difference wrong. They are now in Agra and will be going to see thhe Taj Mahal today, lucky them, I would love to see it.

We are heading up to Yorkshire today but still not absolutely certain we won't be back down here by Saturday, oh well I'm trying not to stress about it.
  • Morning all,
I'm in a foul mood today, fed up of DD's dad taking the pee! Won't go into it, trying to rise above and stay calm.

It is quite icy here but the sun is shining which is lovely. Today is my last full day in the office, finish at lunch tomorrow ready for our Christmas meal
Taking DD to get her ears pierced on my lunch break today, I'm not good with seeing her in any pain!
Our pooch is much better, thank goodness! Took her to the vet and they think she has an infection in her throat so they pumped her full of antibiotics and I have some to give her for the next few days. She is much brighter now and more like herself :-D
Had a couple of glasses of prosecco last night and it has really affected me, this morning I feel absolutely shattered! Just want my pjs, my sofa and blanket and to watch Christmas films lol

I'm 100% ready for Sunday, I'm so ready infact that I am sure I have forgotten something important :o:o I'm so ready that I have even started my New Year Resolution - To be more organised and MSE. I'm forever falling off with both of those, so I have brought myself a writing pad, coloured postit notes and different coloured pens. I haven't actually figured out my system yet tho :o But I WILL be plugging up this site through 2017, I will stick with it, I will not fail :rotfl:
Need to jazz up my signature me thinks!

    Right, cuppa time :coffee:
Have lovely days all, see you tomorrow xx
