Energy suppliers

Hi all,

I have never switched energy suppliers before, i have been with EDF for both my gas and elect for over 12+. I tried putting my details in on a comparison site. The results which have the biggest savings are small new companies i have never heard of like Toto energy, the next best was Economy energy. Is it safe going with the likes of those two companies? I heard in the news a few weeks ago of a supplier that went bust.
What are good and safe suppliers to go with? I am in London if that makes any difference.
Thanks in advance guys.

100% safe following the collapse of GBEnergy: your credit balance is protected. Do a comparison based on your annual projected consumption - in kWs/year not £s - and look for the cheapest supplier. The new supplier manages all aspects of the switch.

So just go with the cheapest? Even if it Economy Energy (seems to have a bad rep from the thread on this forum)?

Read the Feedback MSE and make your own judgement. Remember that the majority of consumers do not read these forums and most are happy with their suppliers. I have had issues with suppliers big and small but energy is nothing more than supply and simple billing. Do your own consumption calculations; provide the supplier with frequent actual meter readings and keep pressing for a bill if one is not forthcoming.

If you want a gauge of what other MSErs think about their energy suppliers, this is a decent guide. I had bad experiences with Co-op Energy and Scottish Power, both of which score poorly in these polls.

I'd be willing to pay a few quid more for a supplier with good feedback.
