No more spends since last update.

Have made lentil bolognese with wholewheat spaghetti which was lovely - 2 days' meals.
Yesterday I made sweet potato and chick pea curry which will have made 3 days' meals (well maybe four but I don't have a freezer and don't want to eat it for 4 days)...
Tomorrow it's going to be Basa Fish with jacket potato and stir fry veg.
Then it'll be stir fry again with noodles and cooked meat as the stir fry will need using up by then.
Wed and Thursday it'll be chick pea curry - one day with rice and one day with cous cous.

I think I've bought too many fresh veg with not enough menu planning but I am loathe to throw any away - such as shame as I could make soups and stews and freeze.

I just wondered - this has happened to me before, when I've bought the growing herbs you get in a pot from the supermarkets - they seem to come with resident tiny little flies like fruit flies. You don't necessarily see them on the herbs but after a day or so of the plant in the house I notice them hovering. This happened a year or so back and has happened again. I'm guessing they come from the compost that the herb is growing in. I probably notice this more as I live in an open studio flat which is just one room. Just a thought.

Yes I have had this problem when buying supermarket herbs, don't really know why it happens but its really quite easy to solve, put a small bowl of vinegar close to the pots and that seems to attract them more than the plant, they fall in and die. Also if you see any flying around or settling on cupboard doors or kitchen surfaces, fill a spray with vinegar and use this to zap them.

  • First spend of the month yesterday in Saino's totalling £53.19. A bit more than I'd planned but got a half price turkey crown for the freezer. Signature updated.

  • Please can you add me for $200 this month?
There are 2 of us, I have lots in the freezer and store cupboard and intend to use it!
  • Thank you Meg! I only get this with mint and coriander and I've given up with them! Mint will be bought in the spring and planted in a pot on the balcony, but nice to know I can get coriander before then without it killing all the others!
  • Managed to get two frozen turkey crowns in the special offer section at my local lidl for that bloomin dinner party. Each serves 10, and I got them for 10.99 each. More than I wanted to spend, but better than €50 at the butcher for them!

Picked up a bottle of "can't believe it's not baileys" as well to make tiramisu -€17 cheaper than the real thing now that all the Christmas offers have ended.

Have blown past the hundred euro mark now...need to be very good for the next couple of weeks to keep on track!

    Hi everyone

Greenfairy I treated myself to a bottle of I can't believe it's not Bailey's, and I preferred it to the real thing!!!

Not spent anything in the last couple of days, but tomorrow I will be buying some milk and courgettes, so I will do a menu plan for a few days and get all that is needed at the same time.I'm doing a round robin trip to various places to save on fuel as well.
