The second diagram will show all the suspension components. If the coil spring has broken, it may have slipped out of the lower seat and the sharp, broken end could impact the tyre, to burst it. There could be another component which has broken of course, but in my years as a workshop foreman I came across a few problems involving cracked or broken coil springs, in VW and other manufacturer's cars which had similar McPherson strut suspension. Were there any sqeaking, creaking or 'rubbing' noises from that area before the incident?

PSA had a major recall across C2s, C3s and Berlingos for that - in 2005. The cure was simply to fix a retainer cup in place.

The simplest solution for the OP would be to claim from insurance.
