Boiler Cover AA?

I have a newish Vaillant boiler, 5 years old.

I have used B Gas exclusively for past 28 years for annual service and breakdown cover.

They are now getting very expensive, 225 for boiler and controls cover plus service, that is with 50 excess.

I have looked around and can get the same cover from the AA for 120 per annum with no excess.

My dilemma is that I have come to trust B Gas over the years and seem to know a lot of the engineers who come because of the time I have been with them.

I am nervous about changing because boiler maintenance seems strange from the AA!!

Do they contract out to individual Gas Safe registered engineers or do they have their own in house team?
Do they give the same response times as I have come to expect from B Gas?

As mentioned in a previous thread (also BG boiler cover) why not save what you are spending into a pot to cover repairs.
You can get home insurance with boiler breakdown cover included (home emergency) sometimes for no extra cost.

If you are paying £225 per year over 28 years... That's enough to buy a brand new boiler for yourself and a few friends!

Saying that, the AA quote seems fairly reasonable seeing as it is almost half the price that you currently pay.

But putting some money aside could be better for your bank.

The cost only seems to have risen steeply over the last few years.

I appreciate comment about self insurance, but 120 from AA which includes annual service (that must be worth 70/80?) seems a no-brainer financially.

My question is about the way the AA work in this area of maintenance and whether people recommend them?
  • They use both some are employed & some are contractors, the subbies price is or was a fixed price whatever is needed so it might be problematic if it reqs an expensive part
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
