Would probably be a very good idea to back up your photos & any videos to a stick or whatever. And to an external hard-drive if you have one. Also back up anything you have saved in 'My Documents' (or whatever they have bloody changed the name to now!)

By the way, we had to reinstall the security package that protects our internet banking. Didn't even realise it had gone till I tried to log on to look at my current account a week or so later. Fortunately the bank were on the ball, as a message popped up asking did we want it. Our one doesn't work very well with Microsoft Edge . . . you can't see the little green symbol in the corner of the brower address bar that tells you it is there & working. I have changed to Firefox, where it does show.

    would've . . . could've . . . should've . . .

  • Hi,

Open Office is compatible, and free, there are others.

    Hi,

Open Office is compatible, and free, there are others.

Unfortunately, Open Office has lost a number of key staff due to a shortage of funding and are not able to keep the program up to date.

For users who are experiencing issues with this they are recommending that they switch to using Libre Office. This is based on the same core programs used in Open Office but is right up to date.

Another consideration is Only Office which I have just read about in the latest copy of Computer Active magazine. It's big plus point is that it only uses 16 MB of memory with no documents open whereas Libre Office uses 220 MB. So, if you have limited ram then it could be worth a look.

    Computer Active link is

Finally, if your requirements are fairly basic then you could try Google Docs and Sheets or Microsoft Office Online. Both are cloud based. I use Google Docs quite a lot and find it does most things for me.

    Hope this helps.

I hope you are not referring to that awful Rapport program are you?
Why reinstall it (although I wasn't aware that it could be un-installed without their special software)?

Do you still have the 'disks' for it?
You really should have used https://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/ before you started to locate all the product keys, but alas ... too late!

    Hi,

OpenOffice is NOT fully compatible with MS Office. Neither is LibreOffice.

But they might be okay for very basic documents.

Really? I've always had to use their proprietary removal tool. :(

    Quite!

The are OK(ish) if you are creating you own reasonably basic documents from scratch but can be a nightmare with some templates etc created with the real thing.
