En suite?

I have an "old pit" house. When I moved in there was a cupboard upstairs in the main room. I extended this cupboard out and was planning on using it as a walk in wardrobe. I actually had another cupboard built and this is now the wardrobe so my original cupboard is being used as a [STRIKE]junk[/STRIKE] store room
I'm wanting to turn it into a en suite, with a small shower, toilet and basin. I've had a plumber come in and he has told me that he cannot run the waste pipe on the side of my house but instead it would need to go on the front, this is odd as nearly all the houses on my street have turned their cuboard into an en suite and their pipes are on the side so I dont understand why mine cant.... but hey ho
He suggested a saniflow system - Has anyone got one of these? Pros/Cons?
Thanks!

If you know someone on your road who has done the same, it might be worth a knock on the door to see how they've managed it, and perhaps ask for a recommendation of tradesman too (if they are happy with the job!).
I would always get a second opinion, though.0 -
It's all about the positioning of your existing soil stacks and the route to get there. If it isn't workable then a saniflo is an option.
The more expensive (in the short term). option is to put in a new soil stack and dig to the existing drains, either putting in a new inspection chamber or connecting to the existing juntion. Lots of labour cost involved but if it works in the long term then it's probably better than a saniflo.
We put an ensuite in the middle front of our house and I just could not bear to run a soil stack right down the middle of a magnolia coloured double-fronted house. We have a saniflo as the drains are straight behind the house, nowhere near. We'd have to dig over 20 metres and it's slightly uphill anyway. The first lasted five years and has been replaced now. I would definitely rather have this set up than no ensuite at all but it isn't ideal.
We don't know your pipe layout or what your neighbours have done.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Yes, we took out a fitted wardrobe, built it out further and installed a shower, loo and basin.
Unfortunately our bedroom is on the opposite side, of a large bungalow, to,the soil stack. Main drainage would have made it an uneconomical job. The saniflow is a great compromise.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

I've had an en suite in the past when there were only two of us. I didn't rate it particularly.
Subsequently, with two children and one or two 'communal' bathrooms I haven't felt the need for an en suite. You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friend's nose.0 -
Well, the OP did ask for opinions.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
