MS Word to pdf with comments

I am marking assessments in MS Word 2013 and using 'review' to insert my comments.
Now I want to save the document as a pdf, however my comments are not visible. The words I have used as 'markers' for the comments now have a pink'ish highlight and my initials are next to each one with a consecutive number.
Try as I might I can't see how to make my comments visible - is this possible?
Many thanks

It sounds like you're displaying all revisions inline, which for comments means you only see the comment if you hover the mouse over the highlighted area.
On the Review tab (I'm going from Word 2010, so may be a little different for other versions) there should be a Show Markup button. From there go to Balloons, and choose either "Show revisions in balloons" or "Show only comments and formatting in balloons".
Once you've done this you should be able to save as PDF with the comments visible.0 -

Thanks so much - I had 'Show only comments and formatting in balloons' selected, changed it to 'Show revisions in balloons' and this kept the comments visible.
Many thanks, you've really helped.0
