Is the difference between these two is that one is 3g and the other is wifi only?

Yes the only difference between the two is that the one on Amazon has 3G & WiFi whereas the one you linked to at John Lewis is WiFi only. Both have special offers and both are the latest model of Paperwhite (with 300 ppi). However, Amazon only offer a 1-year warranty, John Lewis states a 2-year guarantee is included. Although be aware, if you damage the screen of your Kindle, it's not likely to be included in any warranty/guarantee.

You can currently buy the wifi only Kindle Paperwhite (with special offers, which you can pay £10 to Amazon to have these removed if you wish) that is £109.95 at John Lewis, for £104.49 at Amazon.

'Special offers' is a most un-Amazon-like scam, where they impose advertising on you yet describe it as though you are getting something extra you want. I bought one a year ago without reading too closely and found they were so annoying that I willingly paid the extra £10 to make them go away.

I wish Amazon would be more honest about such things; they are usually.

It's just marketing speak. They call them special offers, we call them ads!

Although to be fair to Amazon, when they first started selling Kindles "with special offers", quite a few people were happy because as far as they were concerned, they were getting these handy ads telling them certain things were on sale (or on offer, hence the special offers) at Amazon and that was a good thing. Which I found strange because they were still ads :huh:
