Hello, I have used she and not said names or gave away if she is related to me or not, as though I don't want to protect her, i got to protect myself, my mum and the babies, that's also why I haven't given away the breed, just in case the person looks at this forum.
I have a question. My mum had two puppies given as a gift to us for her Birthday and Christmas, we had them 8 days ago. Now the lady who gave us the dogs, is refusing to give us the papers unless we do what she wants, she wants to breed them, which we don't want to do, but feel we have no choice, but to do what she wants. I'm wondering where in law would we stand? We have prove that the dogs were given as a gift as it's in a horrible voice mail she left. If we don't do as she says, she's threntend us. We don't have the kennel club papers, or do we have the microchip in our address as she is refusing to change it. What can I do to protect my babies? Where do I stand with ownership? I'll fight her if I have too. I just don't want to lose my the babies, I've grown really fund off, who gets me up early in the morning, they are lovely and so special. I can't believe she's doing this to us. Please help, or advise. Thanks.

Pets are considered property in the eyes of the law. If you have proof that they were given to you, then you're in a good position IMO. If you want some proper legal advice, you could try www.doglaw.co.uk
You probably won't get the papers from the breeder at any point, and the breeder would generally need to approve the change in microchip details, but the microchip company might be willing to make an exception if you explain the circumstances. A microchip isn't proof of ownership, but obviously the last thing you want is her details as the first point of contact if they were to go missing - and the newest laws do say it should be in the owner's name.0 -
The papers are not an issue if you just want pets to love and look after, the microchip is. What if they get lost?
If they really are a gift I would ask why the breeder will not change the chip details. I cannot think of a good excuse!
If you have just received these animals and they are young puppies then I am guessing that you will need to take them to the vet for checks and vaccinations etc. If they are not chipped to your ownership this could also present problems.
If the person who "gave" these dogs still wants to in someway retain ownership and just have them in your care then at 8 days you would be better to just give them back.
When you have the chip/ ownership business sorted then you can go ahead and have them neutered.0 -
Firsstly - call the Kennel Club and find out if she has even registered them.
Secondly, you can arrange to have them neutered (after their second season, though - don't do it whilst they are still babies) - and then she will have absolutely no interest in them.
Are they microchipped? Have you had them scanned?0
