Incorrect discount applied to online order, can company charge extra to my debit card

I ordered a hamper online for my nephew, paid by Visa debit card the price shown which included a discount. Now company has sent email saying discount was £6 too much and they will take a further £6 from my bank account. Can they do this without my permission? If the email had asked permission I'd give it but I'm concerned that they can add a further charge to card without it.

It's unauthorised and you can ask your bank to reimburse you.
Whether or not you're liable for the £6 is a different question and will depend upon the T&Cs of the discount offer.0 -
When you provide your CC/DC details to retailers and merchants many of them think you've given them an open cheque! Even those chancers like car hire companies that take pre authorisation take that to mean they can dob your card for anything at any time.
My view is that if you didn't explicitly agree a certain amount anything else is unauthorised and you should insist the card provider gives you a refund. If the amount was actually due, then as suggested above, that's a different matter and you deal with it as appropriate.0 -
A related question: I recently bought some software, and did so by typing my card details into an online form showing a specific amount, and then clicked 'confirm'. The amount of money taken from my card was somewhat higher than the agreed amount. Can the retailer do this?0

They can do it. They shouldn't do it. You can dispute the transaction with your bank.0
