Compain about car dealer uk

Very frustrated!! So after go through a untold amount of " reliable cars " from private sellers only to have them completely break down a few months later. I decided to give a car lot a go having the impression that the cars they sell would have to meet certain standards or having at least SOME checks done before they would legally be able to sell them.

I wanted a car that was good for me and ideal for my partner to use as she had just passed her driving test. After !such searching I finally found a 2008 reg vauxal astra sxi with only 63k on the clock.

needless to say that I fell in love with it! The guy told me they would normally do a PDI (pre delivery inspection) and I could either let them do it and come back or take it on the day and if there were any issues I could bring it back under the 12 week warranty, having traveled 40 miles to the car lot and giving them my old car as part exchange, I didn't really want tongo through the Hassel of going back so decided to take it on the day.

I asked the guy if it was due a service anytime soon and he looked at some paper work n said " it probably wouldn't hurt to get an oil and filter change " which I did. We went through the terms and conditions of the warranty and he told me that if I needed to get work done on the car while its in warranty, to save me making the 80 mile round trip there and back that I can get the work done at home & send them the invoice as long as it wasn't a ridiculous price.

Straight away problems! The guy that did my service said the oil filter was one of the worst he had ever seen and suspects that it was the first time itbhad ever been changed! The windscreen wiper was also broken and stoped halfway up the windscreen and there was an issue with the air con. they denied point blank that they would of said I could get repairs privately and must bring it back. So I did and everything was fixed. Not long after that I noticed a creaking noise while breaking in low gears and the car was losing power when I accelerated. I AGAIN made the 80 mile round trip there and back and was told there had been a new coil pack fitted. I asked about the creaking noise and they told me they couldn't hear one.

The noise has got twice as bad when I break and the engine now chugs when I switch it on in the morning! I'm fed up! I don't want to take the car back to them again because they don't fix it! Can someone please tell me what I can do and who I can talk while the car is still under warranty! Im fed up! :(

They Denie the noises I report. They are rude and sarcastic and have no sympathy for the long journey I has to make to get up there and every time I get the car back it seems worse than when it went I !

They don't fix it? You seem to have taken it back for several repairs and they fixed it?

If you can hear a noise and they cannot then get a 3rd party to listen to it?

Your guy said it looked like it have never had an oil change, but your service history proved otherwise right?

Get someone to record the sound on a mobile phone while driving so that you have evidence of the sound. Videos are time coded.

How long ago did you buy the car?

If it has got twice as bad now, why don't you go back to the seller and ask them to accompany you for a short drive so you can demonstrate the noise to them. Preferably, a mechanic would go rather than a salesman, as they will be able to have a best guess at the issue.

It sounds like the garage have been very accommodating so far. After all, it isn't their fault you live 40 miles away from them.

When buying any car, even from a dealer, you need to fully inspect it and test everything to make sure it works. You also should check all the documentation, which as the above poster said will tell you if it has been serviced or not.

40 miles isn't exactly a long way and like others have said you chose to buy a car from 40 miles away so they can't be held liable for any costs. But everytime you have taken your car back to them it sounds like they have told you what they have done and fixed the problems as requested.

Also in regards to the warranty you should have read the terms and conditions before you bought the car. I went with someone to buy a car a few weeks ago and the salesman was telling us the details the of warranty and how it covered this that and the other. I requested a copy of the terms and conditions and took the time to read it through. Half of what he said was not part of the warranty so I got him to add it in and sign it before we bought the car.
  • cars are covered by the consumer rights act 2015. You have more rights within the first 30 days of sale and still decent rights within the first 6 months after sale.

I have had issues with a car I bought and the citizens advice buro run a helpline called the consumer advice line - they have been great, they give you a reference number and you can call them back and they will give you the next steps. I have also used the template letters on the website, again these have been very helpful.

Have a look at your warranty details - some allow you to use a 3rd party garage and some require you to go back to the garage you bought the car from. If the details allow you to go to a 3rd party garage then put this point across to the selling garage.

As another seller advised take your car for a 3rd party inspection/diagnostic - I did that with mine and used a local garage that was RAC approved and the diagnostic test was way cheaper than I thought - and was very much worth it, as it gave me independant verified proof that there were faults with the car.

Also under the consumer goods act 2015 statutory rights only allow for the garge to have 1 attempt at repair, but if you have a warranty for say 3 months then that may mean they get more - mine was a 30 day warranty and turns out my statutory rights were stronger than the previsions made in the warranty.

From my experience I would also suggest at this point if you have not already start to get things in writing or keep a log of phone calls, dates and notes on what was said.

But best thing to do is call the citizens advise consumer helpline they will give you some good advice and steps to take!
