Search Amazon or Ebay for an unlocked wifi dongle - you can use any sim in one that's unlocked.
These days I t5hink it's best to go for one that is 3g/4g capable and don't look at anything with download rate of less than 20meg as such a device will be ancient.
Huawei is what I use out and about but there are other makes.0 -
Some people will just tether using their smartphone's mobile Internet connection.
Otherwise something like this costs £1 or less to unlock to any network once you've used up the 2GB allowance.
Alternatively; http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/phones-broadband-and-sat-nav/broadband/mobile-broadband/vodafone-r207-pay-as-you-go-mobile-wifi-10061757-pdt.html
Similar situation to unlock using a code bought via eBay(though one can just as easily DIY with a suitable calculator). Though this one may require manual inputting of any new network's details.
Better still, get an EE Osprey Mini 2 That one £14.20. Then you have access to 4G. You may find others there too. Again £1 or less to unlock. Very easy to do so.0 -

Thank you - I don't have a smartphone0 -
Are you with BT at all?
I could take my laptop and connect to one of their hot spots if needed?0 -
A thought...if you only need to check a few emails and view a few websites on the move, then maybe you can tether your mobile phone to allow internet access? My phone contract allows me tether up to 2Gb of data a month for no additional charge (3 mobile on an all you can eat sim only contract). If on the other hand you want to stream iPlayer content then yes, you will need a dedicated dongle....and it's been a few years since I've had need for one of these0

Here is a link to unlocking the EE or Vodafone MiFi to any network and here the link for the EE Osprey.
Therein you can use a SIM such as this 3 Mobile Broadband SIM, lasting up to twelve months0 -

If you have tethering on your phone then you can connect through this and bypass the dongle.0

Only issues with tethering is there may be a slight reduction in speed.0
