Buying: issues with the Title Deed, slow solicitor

We are buying a house in Scotland and we had a projected move-in date for the 2nd of December. We had a phone call from the solicitor a few days before the move in date that they received the title deeds and it looks like the sellers wife died in 2001 and they didn't change the title deed since and it has to be done now. It took them 2 weeks to prepare the request to the court, then they said it will take an other 10 days to get back the certificate from the court. The 10 days was over 2 days ago and they told me now it's not guaranteed that it will be done this week.
It's extremely difficult to call my solicitor and despite I work from 10 minutes from their office, I was never able to met my solicitor in person. The reception keeps me waiting for 30 minutes, but I have other things to do, so I had to left.
Is it normal that the solicitor is starting to request the Title Deed one week before the move in date? Wasn't it a little careless?
Obviously it's a big problem for me now because if it won't be done before Christmas I'm going to be homeless with 3 kids as where I'm renting now there's somebody who will move in on the 5th of January. And we have to move lots of furniture before we can move, also I have to paint walls, etc.. What shall I do? I'm calling my solicitor every day, but I don't think She's doing everything she should. She's usually there from 9 and leaving around 3pm and it's really hard to get a hold on her by phone or in person.

Have you tried speaking to someone in charge at your solicitors firm?Thinking critically since 1996....0

a lot of people forget to change the title deeds when the other one has passed away if they fill in all forms when someone passes it only takes a week0

You don't need to be homeless as your rental property is still available until 5th January. I understand that you were hoping to move furniture in advance, but most people move from one property to another in one day, which is what you will need to do.0

I presume you haven't concluded missives yet? You shouldn't really have given notice on your current place until you have a firm date of entry.
It's up to the selling solicitors to send the title deeds to your solicitor (and up to the sellers to sort out the transfer of title to the beneficiary), there's unlikely to be much more that your solicitor can do to speed things up. While in theory they can carry out a search to check the title at an earlier stage, that adds to your costs and isn't normal procedure.0 -

More important than purchasing a property? I doubt it.
Start asserting yourself and stop them taking the proverbial.0
