Take a deal with no exit fee and look to switch again towards the end of March - forward prices from March onwards are much lower.

Is that true for electricity? If so, that is very good news but it runs counter to EDF's recently-announced hike in electricity prices. Remember, wholesale costs now only account for about 36% of the retail cost of electricity.

Yes, it is true. Parts of this winter have been very expensive after the French nuclear outages, but currently it is very cheap. Gas prices have actually been fairly benign.

I use Gas central heating/water and electric everything else. So usage in the south is 7000 kWh gas and 4000 kWh of electricity per year for a 3 bed property.
In a bad winter might use another 2000kW of gas so not that far off your 17.5K units used.
