When DD was first in a line of a rear end queue, she claimed (via her insurance co) from car 2 which in turn claimed from car 3 etc.

sounds very odd - i'd be furious if i was shunted into someones car and they tried to claim off me unless i was in some way to blame!
  • I thought to add my experience.

Christmas Day (of all days) in 2015, my parked car was hit by a third party (an elderly lady). I took photos and notified my insurance company to make a claim.

Boxing Day, I received a text from the third party's insurance company asking me to ring them. She admitted 100% liability. I had never claimed from a third party's insurance before, so naturally I was a bit skeptical about how I would be treated and how my claim would be handled. The same day, I had a phone call from Albany Assistance. I asked who they were - they said my claim had been passed to them by my insurance company. They mentioned they needed me to sign a credit hire agreement. Alarm bells started ringing and I asked them to cancel the claim. I also asked my insurance company to cancel the claim and to log the claim as notification only.

I went to the third party's insurance's innocent third party department. They couldn't have been more helpful and efficient. My car was repaired, albeit a few quality issues with the repair which they handled without fuss, and the claim was sorted in no time. I kept my NCD and no excess to pay.

If you read up on Albany (now changed their name to auxillis but still the same company) you may think you had an extra bonus by not having them touch your car!

When you use the third party insurer, they will also happily let you take your car to your own choice of repairer too
