How do I Factory Restore with Dell XP Desktop

How would I do a Factory Restore on a Dell Desktop operating Windows XP?
Would this delete the XP operating system?
After restoring to Factory Settings would I need to run something like CCleaner.
I have backed up all the files I want to keep.
Could I then upgrade to Windows 10 for free?
Thanks.

Or re-install using the disks, if you have them

It would reinstall the XP operating system. This is what you are wanting to do , no ?

    Hell no

No, but if you are factory resetting your machine anyway, why not just download and install windows 10 instead ?

On startup you press a certain key on the keyboard to enter the reset process. It should be displayed on screen, or be in the documentation. Google the model number for more help.
Would this delete the XP operating system?
It will return the computer to how it was fresh from the factory. If it was originally supplied with XP then it will have XP on it after the reset.

    No
Could I then upgrade to Windows 10 for free?
No. The free upgrade year has passed and it was only for machines running Windows 7, 8, or 8.1. If you want Windows 10 you will have to buy it. If you have an older computer it may well be worth just buying a new one with Windows 10 pre installed.
  • Thank you Andy Pix and wongataa. Brilliant info. Will do all that.

Post the Service Tag(or Express Service Code) of the machine. Perhaps on a label at the back.
