Free loft insulation - where can I get it?
Can someone please tell me where I can get free loft insulation not means tested.
I have no loft insulation at present.
The scheme used to be that it was free to everyone and that 90% of homes qualified. The theory was to save the country’s energy and not linked to benefits.
I am 76 years old but not on benefits.
Thanks

Earlier this year I enquired via British Gas and I didn't need to be on benefits. But I didn't like the small print where they said if they found anything of concern it would be reported back to the relevant organisation. Not having some jobsworth snooping round my house! I actually cancelled the visit and subsequently was subject (coincidentally or not) to months of energy related phone spam.
Would rather pay.0 -
Pinkcloud it might helpful if you told us who supplies your electricity & or gas.
We could then help point you in the right direction.
You could also try following this link.......
You don’t need to be an npower customer and it doesn’t matter if you’ve applied before. Eligibility criteria apply.

British Gas do not do it any more.
It is the snooping eligibility checks that I want to avoid by looking for one of the free ones.
Yes, I would rather pay but I have only my old age pension. As I said I am 76 years old.
Thanks for help

My energy supplier is British Gas but they no longer do loft insulation.
Your link doesn't help. It is an eligibility link and soon as I said I was not on benefits it said I do not qualify.

There was a scheme a few years ago where you could get free insulation if you lived in what was considered a deprived postcode. It doesn't mean you have to live somewhere like Jaywick to qualify.
I had it done on this scheme by Dyson Energy Services.0 -

I need somewhere that does it now free without eligibility checks.

I tried your Dyson Energy Services and their website says they are doing Cavity Wall Insulation free for everyone but does not include the same for loft insulation.
Thanks for help

There is always some sort of eligibility check. There used to be a postcode criteria as someone said . Plus even if you are eligible on paper, to the best of my knowledge there has always been a home survey. They don't just send round a couple of blokes with some rolls of insulation. They check that you actually don't have any for the start and they have to check the measurements and that the space is suitable. Similar with wall insulation.
It was when I saw the small print about them feeding back to the relevant authorities about even unrelated issues that I cancelled. I'm slowly doing up an ancient neglected cottage. Not sure that all the existing arrangements would pass today's building regs etc . :rotfl:So until I get it sorted, I don't want some council jobsworth turning up.
Plus I have heard there is more suitable (for me) insulation than the standard issue.
It does look as if they have tightened things up. However it might be worth ringing round all the main energy suppliers to see what their criteria is.
Edit - the thing that get to me is all the talk about boiler replacement. What about those of us who don't have a boiler in the first place and would really like one?0
