Washing machine pumping water out of detergent drawer

Hello, I have an ariston A1636s which has developed a habit of pushing water up and out of the detergent drawer when it is supposed to be draining out. I have tried cleaning the drain out pipe, there is no filter on this machine like other ones, I have pulled the machine out from under the worktop to see if anything looked amiss but nothing seems to appear in the wrong place or missing. I have tried it on different temperature washes and different spin speeds all with the same results, anyone have a clue, its only three years old. Thanks

  • Try pulling the machine out and filling it with water, then with the machine out put it on to a spin and try pumping the water out into a bucket. This should hopefully show you if the machine is working properly. If it pumps out ok then it might be the drain pipe that leaves your house that is blocked.
  • We pulled the pipe which fits on our waste pipe under the sink off and did a wash with the water filling up in buckets, it worked fine with no water coming out of the drawer, the next wash was fine as well, so we attached it back on, the next wash was ok and the next one it started up again. The machine says it takes a load of 6kg and has no half load, i thought i may have been overloading it but even with less it still does it.

Sorry achtunglady are you saying that this happens on drain or on filling?

If on drain then it's nigh on impossible.

On spin it's possible, even likely under certain conditions and would indicate that the machine isn't draining properly or that there is overdosing and/or overloading going on.

If on fill, very likely and liable just to be the soap dispenser hose that's blocked with congealed soap residues.

I am having the same problem with my ariston a1400wd.

I have tried the bucket method the water is still coming out from the detergent drawer and my warantty expired on 7 september.

I had this problem 3 months ago and an engineer came in and told me that he had cleared the filter.

but from what i understand from achtunglady, there is no FILTER???

Can i buy an extended warranty now and then ask them to come in or I should buy a new washer dryer?

    Hi n6600,

It's probably just a blocked dispenser hose.

    Try this:

Get a boiling kettle and some cable or something flexible and take out the soap drawer. Pour in the water and gently prod down the big hole at the bottom of the dispenser tray and that will hopefully break up anything in there.

Do be careful with the hot water and don't blame me if you get a scald. ;)

It would be mad to throw out the machine for that as, if you call in a local independent, they'll likely fix it for not a lot of money.

You will not be able to insure while the machine is faulty.

    Hi Kwatt,

    Thank you for your reply.

can i use p1094413_l.jpg cause this selling at 99p at 99p shop. will this thing damage my detergent drawer or the hose?

what i can't understand is if there blocked dispenser hose, how can i still see water in the drum? . Not all of the water is pumping out from the detergent tho. sometime during the drain cycle and sometime during the spin cycle.

Yeah that should be ok so long as there's no sharp edges on it.

Let me explain, there is no way that water will come out the detergent drawer unless it is blocked in some way, incoming water pressure is too high, restricted or the water is forced up there on spin, bar one. The one is a total overfill condition but this would involve continual filling.

If you describe the fault accurately I can probably narrow it down.

If the pump has failed, it won't fill. It's a safety thing.

If the pump is blocked or jammed and you try to use it then it will fill to level (maybe if it doesn't detect the fault) then it will try to drain, as soon as that times out it will either attempt to spin or drain out after the level detection times out.

IIRC that machine is on the Indesit EVO2 software which is well known for throwing up errors, usually in the form of a code or flashing/pulsing LED. If you have anything showing like that it will offer a clue.

The hotpoint engineer has came in and fixed the problem.

Firstly, he pull out the machine, and let the machine lead against the cuprborad at a 45 angle, then unscrew the black round thing ,which is under the drum. then took three things out which look like a ball, a cup and cap (the filter).

He told me that the problem is the filter is blocked so they have to clean it for us as we cannot reach the filter.

The engineer also told me that eveyone can do this job but you need to unplug it from the power suppy and make sure you sure you screw it back correctly.

Apparently, this is a very common problem with all ariston washing machine. Do you guys think this is a macnufacturer fault? if it is you can actually ask the retailer to reimburse your cost if your washing machine is under 5 year old

    hope it helps
